Platte County senior Owen Bane threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings and earned the win in a 9-3 victory over Chaminade on Saturday. He talked afterward about finishing the season on a positive note, receiving a start in the Class 5 third-place game, bouncing back from the semifinal loss to Willard more. After a difficult loss to Willard in Friday's semifinals, Platte County came back to rout Chaminade 9-3 in the Class 5 state third-place game less than 24 hours later, finishing another successful season on a high note in dreary weather conditions. The Pirates' senior class that included Brennan McLaughlin, Zach Brown, Ian Gold, Andrew Edsall, Owen Bane, Trent Belcher and Lucas Dillingham finished just short of 100 wins in four seasons, adding to the program's recent run of postseason success in the process. Platte County defeated Chaminade 9-3 in Saturday’s Class 5 state third-place game at U.S. Baseball Park in Ozark. This marks the program’s third state trophy in a span of five seasons, adding to championships in 2022 and 2025. The Pirates finished with a record of 27-14.

Platte County lost tonight’s Class 5 state semifinal 10-0 in five innings against Willard at U.S. Baseball Park in Ozark. The Pirates had just two hits and committed four errors in the loss.

Next up: Platte County (26-14) plays Chaminade (22-15) in the Class 5 third-place game at 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
