Platte County ended up with eight MHSBCA all-state picks in Class 5 after winning the third state title in program history with junior Brennan McLaughlin (IF/P) earning player of the year honors and making the first team team with senior Dayton Doll (IF), junior Rocco Marriott (OF) and sophomore Evan Magnuson (P). The Pirates' second team picks were senior Taylor Stambersky (IF) and junior Andrew Edsall (DH/U), while senior Liam Blacklock (IF) and junior Brooks Hall (P) both made the honorable mention list. Platte County senior infielder Taylor Stambersky delivered the walkoff RBI single as a pinch-hitter in Saturday's Class 5 state title game against Vianney. He talked afterward about approaching the big moment, having this opportunity despite a limiting injury that could have been season-ending, sophomore Evan Magnuson's pitching performance in a high pressure situation and more. Platte County senior shortstop Dayton Doll went 1-for-3 with five RBIs in Saturday's Class 5 championship game victory over Vianney. He talked afterward about beginning and ending his accomplished career with state titles, the mindset going into an at-bat that produced the go-ahead three-run triple, trying to explain a 10-run inning that buried the Griffins and more.
