Platte County senior Adi Benninghoff removed any potential asterisk on a stellar career in the 100-meter hurdles, winning Saturday's Class 5 Sectional 4 race in program-best 14.67 seconds to better Jan Herndon's hand-held mark of 14.93 from 1983. Benninghoff became a three-time state qualifier in the event, while juniors Maggie Wagner (third, 300-meter hurdles) and Adi Kern (fourth, pole vault) earned debuts. Read more:

Platte County defeated Kearney 7-3 in the Class 5 District 8 championship game Saturday at Platte County High School.

Platte County senior Ty Christopher survived races that involved a pair of false starts and a disqualification to carve an eventful path back to the Class 5 MSHSAA Track and Field Championships. He placed second in both the 100-meters and 200-meters, while also teaming with fellow seniors Adam Gisler, Adeboye Akande and Jackson Goodale to win the 4x100-meter relay in another of the state's fastest-ever times. The 4x400 of Christopher, Goodale, senior Elijah Jackson and sophomore Cassius Guillory received a reprieve and advanced to defend last year's state title despite originally finishing fifth and out of the qualification spots.

In field events, Platte County senior Cale Buntz (second, javelin) looks to earn another Class 5 state medal, while freshman Jayden Horn's standout debut season continues after he finished fourth in the shot put. Read more:

Platte County senior Zach Brown earned the win on the mound, pitching six-plus innings in the Class 5 District 8 title game against Kearney. He talked afterward (following an attempted water bath) about his approach, senior Trent Belcher's effort in relief, not looking ahead in the Pirates' chase to defend state title and more.
