Four years ago, Jeremy fell 20 feet out of a tree stand and landed on his neck. His son had just been born, and he’d spent years telling himself he’d guide full time someday. The fall took “someday” away.

He survived. Stopped drinking. Dropped 80 pounds. Built the life he kept putting off.

Now tarpon is what keeps him up at night. “There’s not a fish that will break your heart more than a tarpon,” he says, and he means it as a compliment.

We fished with him this spring. Largest tarpon we’ve ever fed. But what stuck with us most was everything after: his family, his town, a welcome that made us feel like old friends by the end.
