Global health organization CEPI has announced nearly $60 million in funding to support vaccine development efforts targeting the Ebola Bundibugyo strain, as concerns grow over outbreaks in parts of eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The funding will go to Moderna and two other research groups working to accelerate potential vaccine candidates.
The goal of the investment is to speed up clinical development and strengthen global preparedness against a strain of Ebola that currently has limited medical countermeasures. Researchers are focusing on improving response capabilities as health authorities continue to monitor rising infections in affected regions.
Experts say the funding highlights the urgency of expanding vaccine pipelines for high-risk pathogens, especially those with outbreak potential and high mortality rates. While the candidates are still in development, the initiative represents a significant step toward improving future outbreak response.
