The Michigan Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is proud to announce the recipient of the 2026 Governors' Award, George Blaha.
The Governors' Award recognizes the achievements by individuals, organizations, or companies within the Chapter’s designated region, which do not fall within the structure of the Chapter’s regular awards.
Blaha truly exemplifies the spirit of the Governors' Award. For 50 years, He has been a constant in the broadcast booth as the voice of the Detroit Pistons, calling the most iconic moments in Pistons history including all three of the team’s NBA Championships. The legendary sports broadcaster is a member of the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame and most recently, he was awarded the Curt Gowdy Electronic Media Award by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2025.
Blaha's achievements reach far beyond the court. He also is the radio voice of Michigan State University Football, providing the staple sound for Spartan fans since 1971.
Blaha will be recognized with a Regional Emmy® statuette during the 48th Annual Michigan Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Regional Emmy® Awards at The Fillmore Detroit at 7 pm on June 13, 2026.
