Russian President Vladimir Putin said in comments published on Saturday that Kyiv had opened "Pandora's box" with its strikes on Russian ‌economic targets, saying that Russia would hit back at Ukraine's "most sensitive economic sectors"
Ukraine has this summer escalated a campaign of drone strikes targeting Russian economic infrastructure, including oil refineries and online retailers' warehouses, seeking to destroy infrastructure it says is central to Russia's war effort

Russia has responded with strikes against Ukrainian economic infrastructure, including Ukrainian grain exports via the Black Sea.
"The Kyiv regime set out to damage our economy. What did it do? It opened this Pandora’s box itself. Well then, expect a response targeting your most sensitive economic sectors," Putin said in comments to a Russian state television journalist.

At least 16 people were killed and more than 130 wounded on Friday when several Russian drones struck a shopping centre in central Ukraine, authorities said, ‌with President Volodymyr Zelenskiy promising a response to what he called an "act of barbarism."

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said Saturday morning that the country will enact retaliatory tariffs on the U.S. beginning on Sept. 8 in response to the Trump administration’s new 50 percent tariffs.

The prime minister said during a press conference that the country will “match Washington’s new tariffs dollar for dollar in order to protect Canadian workers, farmers, families and businesses.”

Carney said his government will release more details about these retaliatory policies in the “coming days” and that the tariffs would apply to goods like steel, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper and electronics.

Iran on Saturday denounced U.S. plans to announce new sanctions that could put further strain on the Islamic Republic's economy and have an impact on its most important trading partners including China.

After nearly six months of war since the ‌U.S. and Israel launched airstrikes against Iran on February 28, the sides are not firing at each other but also showing no sign of pursuing peace talks.

The Chang’e‑7 launch window runs from Monday, August 24 to Monday, August 31, according to launch observers. That means the mission could lift off on any day in that period.

The Chang’e-7 comprises an orbiter, a lander, a rover and a hopper.

The orbiter is the main spacecraft which will remain in the moon’s orbit, mapping the surface and taking images while the mission is under way. It will also relay data and communications between the other Chang’e‑7 components and Earth.

The lander is the vessel that will touch down on the lunar surface, loaded with the necessary scientific instruments for lunar exploration, near the edge of the Shackleton Crater, a 21km-wide (13-mile-wide) pit close to the moon’s south pole. Lunar missions before this have never come this close to the pole.

The rover is a small robotic vehicle which can drive around the landing site and which carries equipment to analyse the local environment, including rocks and soil.

US President Donald Trump said Iran was not ready to make the “right deal,” as Washington prepared to unveil what it described as unprecedented economic sanctions aimed at increasing pressure on Tehran nearly six months into the war.

“It just means that we’re seeing what happens,” Trump told reporters on Friday when asked whether US military options against Iran were limited.

“We have total control of that entire region having to do with the Strait of Hormuz, and that means well into it, the land areas,” he said. “So, they would love to make a deal, but they’re not ready to make the right deal, in my opinion.”

Trump’s comments came as US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington would announce details on Monday of planned new financial penalties against Iran, after Trump warned of economic consequences for any country providing “any type of lifeline” to Tehran.

The U.S. Supreme Court on Friday allowed President Donald Trump's administration to continue construction of his White House ballroom project for now, temporarily pausing a judicial order that would halt much of the development.

The court's action, known as an administrative stay, gives the justices additional time to consider the administration's formal request to ‌let it continue working on the $400 million ballroom while a lawsuit by a historic preservation group seeking to stop the project proceeds.

The chief of staff of Iran's Armed Forces, Major General Ali Abdollahi, said the Islamic Republic's reaction would be broad and decisive.

"With preparedness across land, sea, air, air defence and cyberspace, Iran's armed forces will respond to the enemy's new threats with crushing, punishing and devastating responses," Abdollahi was quoted as saying by Iranian media.

Iran's parliament speaker, Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, the country's main negotiator in mediated talks with the United States, said Washington appeared to have concluded it could not prevail in its direct military confrontation.
