Jarrett Payton, son of legendary Chicago Bears running back Walter Payton, posted a touching tribute to the legacy of former Nittany Lion Matt Suhey:

"After we lost my dad in 1999, Matt became the biggest father figure I had. When everything felt uncertain, he was there. My dad left him in charge, and Matt never let that responsibility sit lightly. He protected our family. He looked after us. He made sure we were okay, year after year, without ever making it about himself."

On Saturday, CB Josiah Zayas became the first true freshman to start for Penn State on defense in a season opener since 2015.

After the game, DE Caleb Bacon explained how Zayas has become an instant impact player for the Nittany Lions:

“He just acts like a pro. Trains like a veteran. He has the mindset of a veteran. I think he flushes bad things really quickly. Obviously, that’s something with a young player that you can kinda wonder about sometimes. He’s got a super mature attitude…[it] lets him keep playing even in some of the biggest games.”

Former Penn State fullback Matt Suhey passed away on Saturday night, as first reported by the Chicago Tribune. He was 68.

Suhey rushed for 2,818 yards and 26 touchdowns for the Nittany Lions between 1976 and 1979. He had a 10-year professional career with the Chicago Bears, where he won a Super Bowl in 1985.

The grandson of former coach Bob Higgins and one in a long lineage of Nittany Lion lettermen, Suhey was a prominent figure in the "first family of Penn State football."
