Hawaii is taking a major step toward cleaner transportation.

State lawmakers have passed a new clean fuel policy that would create a market-based system to encourage the use of lower-carbon transportation fuels, including renewable natural gas (RNG) and electricity generated from biogas.

If enacted, Hawaii would join California, Oregon, Washington, and New Mexico in adopting a clean fuel standard to reduce transportation emissions and expand investment in cleaner energy solutions.

Government fleet sales dipped in May, totaling 21,740 units in May 2026, down 1.8% from May 2025. The decline came almost entirely from trucks and SUVs, while car sales remained a very small share of the market.
