“Be careful. It has a small hole,” Ryan warned.

With such a wide fish, I had zero doubts about the net until I watched it swim right through the hole and take off, causing Wes to panic.

“It’s hooked good; just keep the tension,” I said as I returned to the shoreline for another net.

Looking back towards Wes, I saw the faulty net halfway down his rod.

“How the heck did that happen?” I laughed.

After what felt like 50 attempts, I got the fish into a secure net and ended one of the more stupid and hilarious fishing moments I’d ever experienced.

The surf bender continued in drastically different conditions last week than the week before but scratched the same dopamine itch.

Warm air, warmer water, and abundant sunshine translated to sunburnt faces, an unassuming marathon session, dehydration, and a glimpse into the months to come as we slowly escape the grey monotony of winter.

Still buzzing and grateful that the Atlantic finally woke up and dished out what we’ve been waiting for this winter.

The palpable excitement felt on the beach and in the lineup is what makes being an East Coast surfer so special. A collective of friends and complete strangers yelled, hooted, and laughed as we all experienced the best waves and beatdowns of the winter.

Thank you, Atlantic Ocean. Can we please have another 🤞
