Branch 47 of the Isfahan Court of Appeals has upheld the convictions of ten Baha’i women sentenced to a combined 90 years in prison on charges linked to their community activities.

These charges were based on activities such as organizing art, music, and yoga classes, as well as nature trips for children and teenagers, including Afghan refugees.

The women—Negin Khademi, Yeganeh Agahi, Yeganeh Roohbakhsh, Neda Badakhsh, Mojgan Shahrezaei, Shana Shoughifar, Arezoo Sobhanian, Parastoo Hakim, Bahareh Lotfi, and Neda Emadi—were convicted of “propaganda against the Islamic Republic” and “participation in deviant promotional and educational activities contrary to Islamic law.”

Alongside prison terms, the appeals court confirmed heavy fines, confiscation of property, and two-year bans on travel and social media. Parts of the sentences were suspended, but most of the verdicts remain in force. The ruling was delivered in absentia to their lawyer after a closed session classified as “security-related and confidential," according to HRANA.

The women were originally arrested in October 2023 and held for two months in Dolatabad Prison, where they endured psychological abuse and threats of physical torture.

The Arabic October

On October 7, 2023, Israeli civilians were attacked after security gaps were exploited. On the same day, on October 7, 2025, in Aleppo, civilians in Kurdish neighborhoods also became victims of violence during a period of security vacuum.

This was not an isolated event. In October 2017, Kurdish areas including Kirkuk, Khanaqin, and Mosul were targeted under the pretext of responding to the independence referendum. These moments reflect a recurring pattern in which Kurds face aggression from surrounding powers.

It is important to acknowledge these facts without reducing them to superficial emotions. What Arabs, Turks, and Persians have done against the Kurds has been carried out repeatedly across Kurdish regions. The consequences are felt not only by men, women, and children, but also by the very land, soil, and environment of Kurdistan.

The history of violence, displacement, and destruction inflicted on the Kurdish people must be mourned, but it must also serve as a lesson. A nation that does not respect and value itself cannot expect others to do so. Therefore, it is essential for Kurds to strengthen love and commitment toward their people, their land, and their identity.

The experiences of Halabja and other chemical attacks remain painful reminders of what can happen when Kurdish rights and security are disregarded. Unless there is vigilance, accountability, and recognition of Kurdish existence, the risk of similar tragedies in the future cannot be ignored.

Forgotten Allies: The Betrayal of the Kurds

Yesterday’s enemies have suddenly become today’s friends of the United States and Europe. Governments that once condemned regimes now embrace them as allies of convenience. But in this shifting landscape of power and diplomacy, one truth remains painfully clear: the Kurds the people who fought terrorism at the highest cost have been forgotten.

When ISIS threatened global security, it was Kurdish fighters who stood on the frontlines. They fought shoulder to shoulder with the international coalition, sacrificing lives, families, and futures in a struggle that was not only for their survival but also for the safety of the world. Their courage and determination helped turn the tide against one of the most brutal terrorist organizations of our time.

Yet, once the battle was won and the headlines faded, so too did the promises of their allies. Western governments, especially the United States, turned their backs on the very partners who had carried much of the burden. Instead of recognition, support, or protection, the Kurds were met with silence or worse, betrayal as deals were made with their adversaries.

This raises urgent questions. Where is the morality that Western leaders claim to defend? Where is the freedom, the justice, and the dignity they so often proclaim in speeches? If those who fight for humanity are left behind when it no longer serves political interests, what does that say about the values of the so-called free world?

The Kurdish struggle is not only about politics; it is about the moral responsibility of nations. To abandon allies once they are no longer “useful” is not strategy it is betrayal. And history will remember it as such.
