๐ป๐๐๐๐๐, ๐ด๐๐ 5: A 36-year-old taxi driver, identified as Lt. Akash Lama, a resident of Jalpaiguri district in West Bengal, was allegedly stabbed to death following a heated altercation in Tawang late on May 4.
According to police, the accused, Pema Wangchu (25), a resident of Dungse, Jang, was arrested in the early hours of May 5 shortly after the incident.
Acting swiftly on receiving information, a police team led by DySP Tasso Kato, along with OC PS Tawang L/Insp. Niyi Angu, ASIs Sange Tsering and Kesang Phuntso, and personnel Ct. Angshi Manpong and Ct. Tenzin Namgey, rushed to the spot under the supervision of SP Tawang Tasi Darang and apprehended the accused.
During the investigation, police also recovered the weapon of offenceโa dagger reportedly belonging to the victimโfrom the Nehru Market area.
Both the accused and the deceased were taxi drivers and had known each other for several years. CCTV footage from the area near the Post Office at Nehru Market reportedly captured the altercation between the two prior to the incident.
A case has been registered at Tawang Police Station under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and further investigation is underway.
