Joint APC, APUWJ and DPCs Brief Media After CM Meeting

Itanagar, Jan — The Arunachal Press Club (APC), Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and District Press Clubs (DPCs) on Tuesday briefed the media after a meeting with the Chief Minister.

The joint bodies informed that the discussion with the Chief Minister was positive and constructive. All issues raised by the journalists were received positively, and assurances were given to address them in a phased and appropriate manner.

APC, APUWJ and DPCs expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the meeting and thanked the Chief Minister for his supportive and encouraging approach towards the media fraternity.

APC HOLDS FIRST COORDINATION MEET WITH DISTRICT PRESS CLUBS

The Arunachal Press Club (APC) on Monday held its first coordination meeting with the presidents and general secretaries of district press clubs (DPCs) affiliated to it, at the mini conference hall here, with an aim to strengthen coordination and address issues affecting press clubs at the district level.

The meeting focused on familiarising district representatives with the functioning, roles and responsibilities of press clubs, while also identifying issues faced by DPCs that require intervention from the APC and the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ).

Chaired by APC president Amar Sangno, the meeting was attended by APUWJ general secretary Sonam Jelly, along with executive members of both APC and APUWJ.

The participating district press clubs included Ziro Press Club, Aalo Press Club, Raga Press Club, Pasighat Press Club and Seppa Press Club.

During the deliberations, district presidents highlighted common challenges faced across districts, including inadequate communication from district administrations regarding government programmes and activities, lack of clarity on registration of media houses under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA), Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) or MSME, and the need for updated guidelines to suit the present functioning of district press clubs.

Responding to concerns over poor communication, Sangno assured that the APC and APUWJ would soon write to the respective deputy commissioners, district information and public relations officers (DIPROs) and superintendents of police to ensure that all government-related communications—such as press conferences, media interactions and information dissemination—are routed through the district press clubs. He added that the state government has already issued an order in this regard, which will be forwarded along with a formal communication from APC and APUWJ.

On the issue of media house registration, Sangno informed that as per the state government’s recently announced advertising policy, media outlets seeking empanelment and government advertisements must be registered with the MCA or MIB. He urged district representatives to disseminate this information among affiliated media houses and advised them to complete the registration process by March 2026.

Sangno also informed that APC and APUWJ would convene a general meeting in the near future to sensitise members on issues related to reporting during VVIP visits to districts. He clarified that while the club and union cannot frame rules in such matters, they can play an important role in guiding and sensitising journalists.

Emphasising the need to avoid conflict of interest, Sangno made it clear that owners of media houses cannot hold positions such as president, general secretary or executive member in district press clubs. He appealed to all DPCs to adhere to the same criteria followed by the APC and APUWJ.

Meanwhile, APUWJ general secretary Sonam Jelly urged district press clubs to strengthen their membership and enhance coordination in information dissemination for the larger public interest. He also suggested that APUWJ would soon nominate district joint secretaries from among the affiliated DPCs to improve communication and safeguard the welfare of working journalists.

Other issues, including the formulation of suitable guidelines for the effective functioning of district press clubs under present conditions, were also discussed during the meeting.

Ziro Press Club Participates in National Press Day Programme in Itanagar

The state-level National Press Day 2025 was observed at the State Banquet Hall in Itanagar on 16 November, organised by the Arunachal Press Club (APC) in collaboration with the Directorate of Information and Public Relations (DIPR). The programme included welcome and keynote addresses, felicitation of guests, a debate competition, certificate distribution and the presentation of journalism awards.

Members of the Ziro Press Club attended the event and took part in the proceedings, joining journalists from across the state in marking the annual observance.

During the programme, the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) presented the Excellence in Journalism Awards.
Marina Dai received the Human Interest award and Liyum Ete won in the Politics and Governance category under the V. Ravindran Awards. Under the Taro Chatung Awards, DDK Itanagar won in the Human Interest section, while Khyoda Yapi and Akom Tanju Don received the Politics and Governance award. The Investigative Reporting award was conferred on Yomge Chisi and Akom Tanju Don.

The day also featured the National Press Day Debate Competition 2025, held on the motion “This house believes that social media influencers in Arunachal Pradesh undermine public trust in media.”
NERIST, Nirjuli emerged as the champion, while Don Bosco College (DBC), Jullang finished as runner-up. The Best Speaker Award was secured by Mr. Gangjai Gangsa of Don Bosco College. Three institutions—NERIST, DBC Jullang and Saint Claret College, Ziro (the defending champion)—participated in the competition.

Ziro Press Club Observes 6th Death Anniversary of Late Taro Chatung

Ziro, Oct 26:
The Ziro Press Club (ZPC) observed the 6th death anniversary of Late Taro Chatung, the pioneer journalist and filmmaker of Arunachal Pradesh, widely regarded as the father of Electronic media in Arunachal Pradesh.

The observance began by Chairman of Ziro Press Club Mr. Tailyang Pugang at the ZPC Office and was followed by a tribute at his memorial site (burial ground) at Keilya, Hija village . Members of the press fraternity paid homage to Late Chatung by observing a moment of silence and recalling his immense contributions to journalism and society.

Late Taro Chatung was best known for his influential Doordarshan program “News and Views” and for his instrumental role in establishing the Arunachal Press Club (APC) and the Arunachal Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ).

He passed away on October 26, 2019, leaving behind a legacy of integrity, dedication, and innovation in the field of media. The Ziro Press Club fondly remembered his lifelong commitment to truth and his invaluable service to the people of Arunachal Pradesh.

Ziro, October 18, 2025:
The Ziro Press Club (ZPC) successfully conducted its First General Conference-cum-Election 2025 on October 18, 2025, at the ZPC Office, Ziro, under the supervision of Returning Officer Tage Tajung (Joint Secretary, APUWJ Lower Subansiri District Unit) and Presiding Officer Kime Anto (IPR, Ziro Press Club). The event commenced at 9:00 AM with the gathering of members, followed by platform speeches and an interactive Q&A session among contesting candidates.
The election process was carried out in a fair, transparent, and democratic manner. Voting was held for the post of Secretary General, contested between Mihin Nancy and Marter Bagra. Out of 21 registered members, 20 were present and exercised their voting rights. In the first round of voting, both candidates secured 10 votes each, resulting in a tie. To resolve the tie, the Election Committee conducted a lottery draw, in which Mihin Nancy emerged as the elected Secretary General.
For other executive posts, the following members were declared elected unopposed on the nomination day held on October 15, 2025.

All the newly elected executive members of the Ziro Press Club are working journalists, representing various media houses operating in Ziro, Lower Subansiri District, Arunachal Pradesh.
The counting of votes and declaration of results were conducted in the presence of all ZPC members, ensuring complete transparency. The outgoing Interim Chairman Shri Hage Penji and Interim Secretary General Shri Tage Laling addressed the gathering and extended their best wishes to the newly elected executive team. An official handing-over and taking-over ceremony followed, marking a smooth transition to the new body.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Returning Officer, expressing gratitude to all members of the Ziro Press Club for their active participation and cooperation throughout the process.
