SUPREME COURT JUSTICE JEFF HUGHES says abuses in East Baton Rouge Parish Family Court are the worst he’s seen in the legal system in his 47 years of practicing law. In a report to legislators, the judge recommended legislation to help solve the problem, including cameras in the courtroom, opening custody proceedings to the public unless all parties agree otherwise, having all parties pay their own legal fees, and speeding up custody proceedings. He noted that Family Court is charging $6.50 a page for transcripts when state law limits the charge to $1.50 a page. Here is his report:

His wife Mary Pat passed away a few years ago. He is survived by his sister Jan Jenkins and a large number of nieces and nephews. He is a 1960 graduate of Baton Rouge High School and a 1964 graduate of LSU where he was commander of the Pershing Rifles. The gathering will be held at the home of his first cousin Woody and Diane Jenkins at 910 North Foster Drive in Baton Rouge. Family and friends are invited. On November 11, 2017, Gordon was honored at Tiger Stadium as one of LSU’s all-time greatest military veterans. In this photo, he is shown with pilots from the Louisiana National Guard.
