IN JANUARY 2024, GOV. JEFF LANDRY AND ATTORNEY GENERAL LIZ MURRILL proposed creating a second black majority Congressional district and FALSELY told the Louisiana Legislature and the citizens of the state that the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals had ORDERED the legislature to do so. At that time, former Rep. Woody Jenkins testified that there was no such mandate from the 5th Circuit and that the actual order from the 5th Circuit was for District Judge Shelly Dick to hold a trial on the merits of whether the 2022 reapportionment plan was constitutional and to give the state the opportunity to appeal a decision if it was found to be unconstitutional. Gov. Landry knowingly and intentionally strong-armed the legislature into passing the Cleo Fields district as a reward to Congressman Fields, who was and is his political ally. After the passage of the Cleo Fields district in January 2024, Attorney General Liz Murrill proceeded to defend the illegal racially gerrymandered Cleo Fields district all the way to the Supreme Court before abruptly reversing her position in September 2025 after President Trump learned what Landry and Murrill had been doing. This testimony includes a letter from Speaker of the House Mike Johnson stating his strong opposition to the Cleo Fields district which Landry and Murrill got the legislature to pass.

McLindon is a criminal defense lawyer, who is currently representing people close to the current or past Council and individuals who have been charged with crimes related to the past administration. His website says that his specialties are:

Exactly why the Metro Council would bypass a normal process of receiving applications and consider only a criminal defense attorney is unknown.
