Francis Harris - St. Catherine And The Calm (LNS Remix & Nadia Sparrow)

In the wake of Francis Harris’s third album, "Trivial Occupations", this remix EP offered a breathtaking reinterpretation of “St. Catherine And The Calm.” This standout version comes from Vancouver born, Berlin based producer Laura Sparrow, known as LNS.

Instead of a standard electronic revision, LNS paired hardware synthesis with live acoustic instrumentation. She brought in her sister, professional flutist Nadia Sparrow, to perform over the track. This flute performance layers with floating tape delays of Francis Harris original piano and vibraphone phrases.

Backed by a calm, breakbeat influenced drum arrangement, the production keeps the warm feeling of the original while adding a percussive layer. It is a thoughtful, melodic addition to the catalog that completely redefines the original track's energy. A very special piece of the Scissor & Thread catalog and our classic of the month.

It's been over a decade and this track is still one of a kind. In 2012, French house heavyweight Anthony Collins teamed up with Jordan Lieb (aka Black Light Smoke) from Brooklyn to release “Leopard” on the newly formed Scissor & Thread label imprint Natural History.

This is a piece of mastery of deep, hazy, analog textures paired with unique vocals that tug at the heartstrings. Regardless of whether you’re losing yourself in the smoke cloud of the Panorama Bar or simply soaking up the vibe at home, this is house music in its most enchanting form.

A timeless piece of the Scissor & Thread legacy that belongs in every collection.

“Dream Vibration” was released in 2022 and signaled the return of Frank & Tony after several years without a joint release. The duo, consisting of Francis Harris and Anthony Collins had already established a unique style through their earlier collaborative work, and this track seamlessly continues in that vein.

The track was released as the title track of a new EP after both artists had been active for some time, separately and as part of the label's activities. Artists such as Eliana Glass and Timmy Regisford also contributed to the EP, providing the track with a broader network of artists connected to their sphere.

“Dream Vibration” reflects a special phase of their work as Frank & Tony and is therefore an obvious choice for our Classic of the month selection.

Almost a year after his debut EP Every Inch of You, a project he created in memory of his grandfather, Rosas Nievas returned to Scissor and Thread with Going Away Soon. The track begins with immediate momentum, led by percussions, light guitar riffs, and a playful sense of rhythm that sets the tone from the very first bars. The recording is thoughtful and personal, with subtle details revealing themselves over time.

Going Away Soon reflects the same reflective nature that characterized Rosa Nieva's earlier work, capturing a moment that appears calm and deeply expressive. It continues to be one of the most memorable pieces from this artistic phase and is a perfect choice for our Classic of the month selection.
