Some good stuff going on in the music world, despite Tik Tok brain.

Recording acoustic instruments, specifically finger picking, as one of the most challenging things to do in recording. Here's why-

1. Ambient noise- chair squeaking, AC turning on, even breathing can all make their way into the hot microphone
2. Timing- finger picking right on time with a metronome takes a lot of work.
3. Tone- staying at the same spot so the microphone picks you up evenly, picking at the same place on the instrument, even playing the intended dynamics with each pick is tough 🥵

Let's talk songwriting 🖋️

1. Magic AND work-
Sometimes there's magic, most of the time there's grind. A lot of people tend to think if you have to sit there and work it out, that it's not good- Truth is many songs start with a magical inspiration, but take time and work and craft to get it to a completed place. Don't be afraid to feel like you're "working" for a song.

2. Rhyming prison-
When a song rhymes, it's a great musical thing.. but don't write lines only because they rhyme with the previous one. Get out your thesaurus, go on a rhyming website, you don't want people to think that the only reason you wrote a line is because it had to rhyme with the previous one.

3. Every line matters-
In today's day and age, the songwriting standards are steep! You don't want any line to be wasted. The song needs to grab you at any point along the way. Going to buy if someone is listening to your song and they check out by verse 2, you might need to think of something a bit more captivating.

It's even scary to hear what is only been your iPhone voice memo come through as a living, breathing work of art.

There are an extremely limited number of studios in the central Illinois area. My goal bring the sound of Nashville, Chicago, St Louis right here for a reasonable price. For some artists it's hard to travel 2 - 4 hours, pay $2000 per song, and get one shot at tracking your part.
