I wish I had realized what was about to happen as I chatted up Craig Bell and he met Charlie Wiener FOR THE FIRST TIME!!!!! When I heard that fact, I did start video recording their virgin conversation (those are usually the best). Wish I had captured the entire moment. The pair had both been members of the proto-punk band ROCKET FROM THE TOMBS (which morphed into PERE UBU) and were panelists in the "Celebration of Cleveland Rock History Part 3" hosted by Deanna Adams at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland on August 27th 2023. A portion of their stage discussion is also shared here (the rest should be up on the Cleveland Rocks Past Present and Future YouTube page).

Northeast Ohio folkie CINDY MACKAY performing I KNOW YOU RIDER at the Rock + Reggae Festival (a benefit for the FREE CLINIC) in Huntsburg Ohio on August 24th, 1986. As Cindy says in her introduction that the song is a standard. In my introduction to the performance I discuss the origins of the song from Blind Lemon Jefferson writing it (performed as WOMAN BLUES and I KNOW MY RIDER), it's inclusion in the 1934 Lomax book AMERICAN BALLADS AND FOLK SONGS, spreading it to the 1950's folk scene and later into the rock arena. hearing Cindy sing the lyrics "miss you when you're gone" are especially poignant as Cindy MacKay passed away in May on 2020. Beautiful music by a beautiful person!

THE JANGLERS performed a show for their fans on the Treadway family farm in Willoughby Hills Ohio on August 24th 1991. Not a typical gig as it was a cover heavy day for their fan base - many of whom camped out after a great day. The police showed up in reaction to noise complaints that evidently came from several communities along the Chagrin River (the farm overlooks the river along the bluffs....so cool) and were really cool...just asked Mike Pisano to turn the volume down a bit. The gig started under the sun...the last few songs are very dark after sunset.

I love talking to people....my kids used to lament "Dad, why do you have to talk to everyone?". I told them "because everyone has a story". MIODRAG is a gentleman that I met on August 23rd, 2020 while walking the dog in Chagrin Falls Ohio. He saw Holder and motioned us over and told me he was sending pictures of the dog to his family in Serbia. I asked if I could interview him and we spoke about the Serbian Civil War, his 1989 immigration to America (he married a pen pal after having visa requests denied at the U.S. Embassy), working in the U.S.A., dog breeding, drug use and life in Communist culture, and his frustration about the lack of maintenance of the bridge on Main Street over the Chagrin River in downtown Chagrin Falls - he hung signs that said "Paint Me" on the bridge!.
