🇺🇸 Murphy Veterans Tribute Faces Change 🇺🇸
Seven years in the making, the half-acre site in Central Park for the Murphy Veterans Tribute is no longer available. The city is now offering a smaller location near the Fire Department flagpole and a new design will be needed.
MVT President Mary Pat Elledge says the group had raised significant funds—including a $109,000 matching grant—and supporters remain committed to honoring our veterans.

Texas Country Music Hall of Famer Clay Cooper returned to his roots last weekend for a surprise performance at the Wylie Opry, the same stage where he began singing at just 13 years old.
He brought his sons, C**t and Caden, to perform on the same stage where it all started, with a warm welcome from Opry owner and longtime friend LeGrant Gable.

📵 New School Year, New Rules
Cell phones are officially out of class — and off-limits — for Texas students. A new state law bans personal devices like phones and smartwatches during the entire school day, from kindergarten through 12th grade.
Some students are pushing back, but districts are already enforcing it. 📚📲

Council has agreed on a proposed property tax rate of $0.358 per $100 valuation, aligning with the state’s voter-approval rate. This includes a 4% increase in M&O revenue due to rising property values.
Additionally, new utility rate adjustments will raise average monthly water and wastewater bills by about $7 to help keep the utility fund sustainable — focusing the increase on higher water usage.
A public hearing on the tax rate is set for next month, and a detailed utility rate presentation will take place at the August 19 council meeting.
Stay informed on how these changes might affect your wallet! 💧🏠
