So what if I told you that Denver has a place that screens locally-produced, independent short films, docs, music videos, art films, and an occasional feature-length film? Would you be surprised or would you sa

y, “That sounds like The Emerging Filmmakers Project.”

If The Emerging FIlmmakers Project is new to you, you’re probably wondering, “How do I get in on this?” Well, first of all, head on down to the next screening and introduce yourself. You can drop off a dvd or e-mail a screener to us at [email protected]. We’ve a got a small screening committee made of local filmmakers and actors. And we usually give feedback (if you want it) if we don’t screen it. The Emerging Filmmakers Project has been showcasing the best of Denver’s new and established independent filmmakers the third Thursday of every month since 2002, Screenings are held down at The Bug Theatre (3654 Navajo St., Denver 80232 – www.bugtheatre.org). The Emerging Filmmakers Project is a great place to meet and network with area filmmakers, actors, writers and many of the talented folks who work behind the camera. A spirited Q & A with the filmmaker follows each movie where you and your fellow audience members get to tell the filmmaker exactly what you think of their work. The Emerging Filmmakers Project also offers discounted acting classes and screenwriting workshops. Although film acting classes are taught in conjunction with The Film Acting Academy of Denver (www.filmactingdenver.com), the Emerging Filmmakers Project supports the philosophy and work of every acting studio in town. So now that you know a little bit about the Emerging Filmmakers Project, you should have your people put it in your calendar and come to the next screening.

Filmmakers: one of our hosts, Mike Henderson, is taking on a sound editing intern for their high school capstone. Would anyone be interested in providing a 5-10 minute(ish) short film for us to mix? You'd get professional sound design for free, all dialog editing, ADR (if necessary), Foley, and a final Dolby Atmos mix you could sit in on. The catch is the student's assignment has to be completed by April 4th, so we can only consider films already shot and edit locked. If interested, send a Vimeo link to [email protected].

In one week, one of EFP's hosts, Mike Henderson, will be leading a hands-on sound design seminar at WIFMCO's annual industry fair. Come join us! Editors, DPs, Directors, Actors, Writers, Soundies, explore how sound can support your craft. Saturday, we'll dissect sound stems from a few studio film clips, listening to isolated dialog, fx, and music tracks. Then, we'll prep/spot a session for Sunday, when we'll all pitch in together to build the soundtrack of a short, :30 scene from a local filmmaker, including choosing backgrounds & fx, shooting Foley & ADR, and then giving it a surround mix. It's going to be a fast-paced few sessions, but dammit, we're going to make it!

Come armed with all your sound questions, your creative mind, and maybe... a pair of heavy boots Sunday!
