Across from her beloved boutique, Third Gallery, Kelly Hoose arrives with a cardboard box brimming with old photographs—sepia snapshots and curled Polaroids telling the story of generations deeply rooted in the South Bay. She spreads them across the table and smiles softly. “There aren’t many of us left who go back this far,” she says. “But this town—it’s my family’s story.” Read more about Kelly and her South Bay roots in link in bio.

What began as a commute from Orange County soon became a calling. “I didn’t grow up thinking I’d be a hairdresser, let alone own a salon,” Michael Nguyen admits. “But timing and life pull you in the right direction.” ✂️ That pull led to Mikell Coiffure, the stunning sanctuary he designed himself on Highland Avenue. With soft Moroccan influences, creamy tones, textured walls and ocean views that feel like a meditation, his salon is more than a place for hair; it’s a space for connection.

Walk, drive or ride a bike down Pier Avenue in Hermosa Beach any day of the week, and it’s impossible to miss Stars Antique Market. It stands out not just because of its eclectic window displays, but because of the building itself. The red barn-style structure, built in 1917, was originally a church. Step through the doors, and you can still feel the echoes of that past. The original choir loft remains, a tangible link to over a century of local history. Explore its rich legacy in link in bio.

I don’t use color,” says local design Nicole Heininger. “It’s my own aesthetic, and it makes me feel at peace. It’s all about this soft ease, thoughtfulness and restraint when I’m in my personal space. Maybe it’s because I’m constantly designing for other people and other spaces, so I need the ability to think freely and creatively for so many other things.” 🤍

A blend of hometown roots and global perspective led Nichole Blackburn to start the nonprofit Big Sky Countries with a mission to create murals for children’s spaces around the world.

“I’ve always loved painting big,” she shares. “Give me a blank wall or a ceiling, and I light up. Put me in front of a small sheet of paper, and I start to feel boxed in—I run out of room too fast. Murals offer an immersive experience that can transform a space. You walk into a room and suddenly feel transported—that’s the power of large-scale art.” 🎨

When orthopedic surgeon Steve Wertheimer, MD, and his late wife, Barbara, married at La Venta Inn in 1971, it marked the beginning of a future with three generations of medical professionals in their family. They raised four daughters in Palos Verdes—Laura, Joanna, Amy and Erin—who went to Chadwick School before each continued their education following in their father’s health care footsteps in various fields.
