For 49 years, Russ Delauter and Mary Jane "Tootie" Lenhart have toiled together in Trinity United Church of Christ’s basement kitchen in Thurmont, cranking out desserts by the thousands for any sweet tooth in Frederick County — and beyond — and turning all of their earnings over to the church.

But last week, they decided to retire from baking full time. Delauter is 95 and Lenhart is 90. Cooking and baking practically every day was taking its toll.
