MinterPhotography

MinterPhotography Some of my favorite shots. Currently retired and enjoying my photography hobby. I recently reorganized it since there are now thousands of my images there.

Although I have always loved photography, retirement gave me more time to actually work on taking it to the next level. Years ago I did some film photography, but bought my first 'good' DSLR about 2 years ago. I've made many 'trade ups' in equipment in that time, and have kept fine tuning my skills. I have set up a photo site, minterphotography.com, which redirects to a professional online host si

te known as smugmug.com. I created a gallery which features what I consider the better ones. If you had a favorite it is still available on the search function. Hopefully you will enjoy viewing them, and ordering some mugs, cards or posters featuring them.

This is a photo from my archives from 2024. I had posted it back then but in the full frame of the entire horse. I decided to update it with a more artistic crop and current color styling.

(I also removed a half dozen horseflies- most likely reason the tail was in motion!)

There were lots of clouds overhead last night as sunset approached, and according to the 2 sources I use there was a large cloudless area to the west of here. Many times that will allow for the entire sky to light up with color. But not last night.

But it did help me capture this image of my old friend 'Jenga', a barn that is one of my favorite subjects. The skies were amazing looking with a few spots of pink color in the sky behind it, but limited.

But it DID make for an excellent moody image IMO, what do you think?

EDIT- I'm adding the color version also since a lot fewer followers seem to appreciate B&W photos.

For the last 3 or 4 years I have gone to Cullen NY at this time of year for pumpkin photos at the Cullen pumpkin farm. This is actually a merge of 2 photos that I took the same day (9/20/24). Although the antique tractor being driven by a pumpkin headed scarecrow is an interesting subject, I couldn't resist this mash-up of two images.

I layered the chassis and wheels to put over the pumpkin image. The pumpkin was photographed on the other side of the road, so I had to flip it horizontally for the lighting to be correct.

I like the result, how about you?

If you would like to visit the farm, they open in one week- 9/12/26
Photo ops are available if you wish, message me for details.

As I drove down a dirt access road there were some breaks in the trees and shrubs alongside the road, and I could get some peeks at an overgrown field with a lot of wildflowers in it. I noticed a few Monarch butterflies fluttering around, and although they were a good distance away the lighting was perfect for using the 600mm zoom. Out of a good number of photos I shot this was my favorite in position and composition.

I used google to get more info. Although people hear the letters "A-I" and lose it, there are some useful things about it. You can ask "what flower is the monarch butterfly on?" and get:
-------
The butterfly—specifically a Monarch butterfly—is resting on a Joe-Pye w**d

These tall North American native perennials produce large, domed clusters of fuzzy, mauve-pink flowers that are highly attractive to pollinators. They serve as an important late-summer and autumn nectar source for migrating Monarchs
-------

Since these days at least 60-70% of the people view smaller images on cellphones, I am posting 3 versions of the image to get YOUR opinions on which is preferable. Please either add your comments or like your favorite version so that I can make my decision on which way I will process the bulk of my images in the future.

This is from the Paranormal Cirque this past weekend. They ended with a "Thriller" dance with most of the cast. some of the zombies are still laying down in the background. I decided to play around with editing this one to enhance it with a zoom blur effect on the background- just for the fun of it!

I might use this again towards the end of Oct!

The side of the road can be very colorful this time of year. This is definitely an uncommon grouping of colors!
