We head south into California and quickly learn just how big—and wild—the Golden State really is! From a white-knuckle drive down US-199 to our first glimpse of the Pacific Ocean, this leg was full of curves, cliffs, and surprises.
We explored towering coastal redwoods near Crescent City, braved Howland Hill Road, spotted harbor seals, found our first California geocache, and cooled off in rainforest air while much of the country was baking. We also learned a few things the hard way—California distances are no joke, not all redwoods are those redwoods, and proper footwear matters. 😅
