The video qualifies as irresponsible advocacy by prompting militarisation and detracting from Uganda's real problems.

The big banks have not made any sense to most people for a long time. Nobody believes that they create posterity. By converting police forces and military personnel into renta-cops working for them, they only dig a deeper hole for themselves. By running a candidate as unconsciously comic as Mitt Romney, they risk becoming a laughing stock. The big banks are looking at their demise, but continue to finance the demise of the physical life of the earth. It bizarro world, but it's our world. This revolution must eventually have a design. What is the end-game for this form of economy? The clock is ticking.

Radio Provocateur: Calling London | Radiohive Collective

Back before Occupy Wall St. took over Liberty Plaza, London had a riot. In this episode of the show from August 2010 features conversations with two Londoners on the riots (or was it a revolt?) that swept through the UK, and the media’s response to The Big Smoke up in smoke.

Conversations with two Londoners on the riots (or is it a revolt?), the causes (if any), and the media's response to The Big Smoke up in smoke. Very special thanks to our two riotous guests Leah Borromeo and Oonagh Cousins.

Kony 2012? Critics Alarmed by Aid Group's Call for Foreign Intervention

This is one of the clearest arguments as to why the Kony 2012 campaign, spearheaded by the MTV-like video that went viral, is extremely problematic. I will share it with all of you, especially those with an urge to buy the "kit" in order to make a difference.

Aid group Invisible Children released a slick and emotive campaign video last week titled Kony 2012. The video went viral in a short amount of time reaching 70m hits in one week helping the organization to raise $5m within 48 hours.Invisible Children founders check up on how their money is being spe...

Occupy Wall Street’s Elegant Message

Danny Schecter: "It’s as if the movement won’t be taken seriously by some, unless and until, it enunciates a list of 'demands' and defines itself in a way that can allow others, especially a cynical media, to label and pigeonhole it. (So, it won’t be taken seriously then either.)"

As more than 1,000 people descended on Frank H. Ogawa Plaza Wednesday night, Quan called for "a minimum police presence" and said nonviolent protesters would be allowed to re-occupy the area near City Hall. One day earlier, with Quan's authorization, 400 police officers had dismantled the tent city.

Occupy Oakland Ousted After Early Morning Police Raid: SFist

Thank you Oakland PD for helping us grow our movement.

Using tear gas and riot gear, an estimated 200 police conducted early morning raids on Occupy Oakland protesters at Frank Ogawa Plaza on Tuesday. It took all of 30 minutes to clear out the encampment. Oakland Tribune reports, "After police surrounded the plaza about 4:45 a.m., they began moving in a...

....There is a thoughtful hush in the center of the heart-thrumming drum circle. With Occupy Wall Street, we're on this bridge now, an interesting pause, as we fill in blanks about what we've done, and set up connection with 950 outposts. We're in a weightless moment between pure inspiration and the onset of winter, of strategy, and real post-Washington politics.

MTV Sees Zuccotti Park As Ratings Gold! Releases "True Life" Episode Following Protesters: Gothamist

Sometimes I wonder if Occupy Wall St. is getting too popular for its own good...case in point:

Not long ago MTV put out word that they were looking to cast Occupy Wall Street protesters for the new Real World (they're still looking!). At the time, a rep for the company confirmed with us that it was indeed their Craigslist ad, and they were "targeting young passionate people" for their 27th se...

Occupying, Organizing and the Movements That Demand Both - COLORLINES

"We need both kinds of activity. There are things that the NAACP can do because it’s 100 years old, and there are things it can’t do for that very same reason. There are things Occupy Wall Street can do because it is nimble and unknown, but there are things it can’t do for that same reason. A good relationship between social justice organizations and movements requires reorientation from both."

It’s unlikely that anyone knows how to predict when “movement moments” will strike. But the question is how we make the most of them when they come, because you never know how close you are to freedom.
