Congratulations to our colleagues at ZEMBLA! Journalists Ton van der Ham and Vincent Harmsen won the ‘Loep’ Award for their investigation into the approval of glyphosate.
(BNY’s Remco Bikkers helped film these episodes)
Glyphosate is one of the most widely used herbicides in the world. But it is also highly controversial. How is it possible that pesticide authorities approve the substance, while independent scientists conclude that it is probably carcinogenic?
“That there is far more evidence of a link between glyphosate and cancer than people in Brussels or The Hague are willing to admit is one observation. That the regulatory body is involved in misreading scientific research is another. And that the scientist who plays a central international role in this shadow play is paid by the industry is a third. The strength of this research is not only that it substantiates these conclusions, but also presents them to those involved,” the jury wrote in its verdict.
