When we first got into Longhorns the best advice we got was “buy what you like to look at, that produces a nice calf, because trends come and go and at the end of the day you’re the one taking care of them all”. Well we tried our best to do just that, unfortunately our favorite cows and cow families were not easily obtainable. RC Pacific Mermaid was our first love and in 2020 when we started we didn’t stand a chance at touching her so we looked for daughters and tried to buy a daughter for a couple years before finally going to the next best thing a granddaughter, now we loved the overall conformation, milkability, size, and fertility the family produced but icing on the cake was the especially unique facial markings that seemed to frequently pop up, unfortunately we quickly realized we weren’t affording what we were looking for so we took a gamble on a solid white Pacific mermaid granddaughter named A&S Pacific Susie. Last year we bred her too our bull WS Cochise who had given us the nicest calves we have produced out of hundreds of calves. Tragically we lost Cochise this winter and were devastated. We had big plans for him and were so excited to watch things come together so when he was gone we weren’t sure what to do for that “next step” now. Then this little guy appeared. Everything we have loved about longhorns since the day we bought our first cows. Introducing A&S Suzie x WS Cochise 2026 bull calf. Looking at his dam and sire that face only comes from one place and that’s his great granddam RC Pacific Mermaid. Couldn’t be happier with him he is BIG correct and thick never lost any birth weight and calm and curious as his dam is. Longhorn breeding isn’t a short term program, for many it takes years of planning and searching for genetics you want in a package you can obtain to create a vision you strive for, for us this is a long awaited plan finally staring back at us and we can’t wait to see what he comes.
