Today’s multi-day, multi-experience adventure takes us to America’s highest suspension bridge - a 1,260-foot-long feat of engineering built in 1929, swaying 956 feet above the Arkansas River. Our first stop is the Royal Gorge Bridge & Park where we get to experience this massive marvel on foot; then it’s on to the Royal Gorge Route Railroad, which offers an entirely different perspective of the canyon aboard a much-beloved scenic rail line. Our “Year of the Train” and our 2026 Colorado Road trip continue and we are stoked to show you everything we experienced!

Join us aboard the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad for one of the most spectacular scenic rail experiences in the United States! We chose to take in the sights and sounds of the journey from Durango, CO to Silverton, CO in an open-air carriage for the entirety of our nine hour round-trip journey between two drastically different altitudes and environments in the Colorado Rockies. This was truly one of the most amazing experiences that we had during our Colorado road trip, and we couldn't be more excited to share our full day of rail travel with you!

On our way from Glenwood Springs, CO to Durango, CO, we made a pit stop in Ouray for a well-known waterfall hike that even novices like ourselves can handle. Box Cañon Falls Park - home to the 285-foot Box Cañon Falls - offers a number of breathtaking views, but none more spectacular than those of the High Bridge and the Lower Falls Catwalk. With only a couple of hours to spare for this adventure, we made a point of hitting all the high notes and checking out all the angles of Canyon Creek, Box Cañon Falls and Ouray before packing it in and getting back on the road.
