South Tucson voted to cancel its Flock Safety contracts in February. More than 40 Arizona police departments had already searched its camera data. Scottsdale alone ran over 12,000 searches.

Canceling the contract does not delete the network.

Flock cameras sit outside Home Depots and Lowe’s. The University of Arizona runs 62 of them around campus. All of it feeds the same national law enforcement database, and ICE has tapped into it.

Advocates told LOOKOUT what worries them most is not a hypothetical hack. It’s the everyday map: a clinic, a shelter, a community center, logged week after week, no warrant required.

For LGBTQ+ people, people seeking reproductive care, and anyone attending a protest, experts said the risk isn't only that someone misuses the footage. It's that the mere presence of the system can be enough to create a chilling effect.

There will be no trial for the man who killed Cameron Capara and Vincent Siqueiros at Venture-N.

No prosecution. No sentence. And no chance for their families or survivors to confront him or ask why he targeted them.

Police say they found evidence the shooting was motivated by anti-LGBTQ+ hate. But with the shooter dead, there is no courtroom where those questions can be answered.
For Tucson’s LGBTQ+ community, that has meant trying to answer the question:: What does justice look like when there can be no accountability in court?

Survivors, family members, community advocates and elected officials are now grappling with what comes next — from stronger hate crime laws and gun-safety measures to the broader political climate they say allows anti-LGBTQ+ hate to take root.

Police say the Venture-N shooting was a targeted attack motivated by hate toward the LGBTQ+ community. 

With few details about the gunman confirmed, far-right influencers and politicians have rushed to fill the vacuum with unproven theories about his religion and motive — and those claims are spreading fast, with no evidence behind them.

LOOKOUT’s Lorenzo Gomez looks at what investigators have actually established, and what’s just speculation.

For Wyatt Kent, life sometimes feels frozen in time. He performed on the night that a gunman entered into a Colorado Springs gay bar, Club Q, and opened fire. The gunman killed five people, including Kent’s fiance, and injured 25 others.

Those memories came back Tuesday morning, when Kent woke up to the news that a gunman murdered two men before killing himself outside Venture-N, a gay bar in Tucson, Arizona, early the day before. .

“Not a day goes by that I don’t think about what happened (at Club Q),” Kent said. “And I hope these folks in Tucson know how loved and supported they are.”

Two days after the shooting that killed Cameron Capara and Vincent Siqueiros, Venture-N reopened. A bartender swung open the door and said, "We're open" — and a grieving community came home. "It was our safe place. It still is."

At Venture-N, friends of Cameron Capara and Vincent Siqueiros returned to mourn, remember and reclaim the place they call home.

An estimated 1000 people showed up at Tuscon's Catalina Park on Wednesday night to honor the lives of 33-year-old Cameron Capara and 42-year-old Vincent Siqueiros.

The two men were killed in a hate-motivated attack on Monday, Aug. 31 in the early morning at Venture-N, a gay bar in midtown Tucson.
