When Tom Daley flew to Los Angeles in October 2015 to propose to Dustin Lance Black, he hid the engagement ring box in his underwear on the flight. He got down on one knee, gave his speech, and Lance said yes. Then Lance surprised him.
Lance ran to the bathroom and came back with another ring box. He'd already bought an engagement ring to propose to Tom - neither knew the other had the same plan.
Lance, being an Oscar-winning screenwriter, had prepared an extravagant speech. Tom can't remember a word of it because he was "completely overwhelmed."
They announced their engagement the old-fashioned way - in the Births, Deaths and Marriages section of The Times newspaper - then shared a photo of their matching platinum rings with emerald-cut diamonds stacked on top of the newspaper.
