Wednesday evening on "Offline," 7-7:30 pm: Chapters 10 to 12 of “Transience,” Mainer’s serialization of Kenneth W. Beek’s gritty inside look at Portland and Maine’s homeless population. Narrated and directed by Dan Bernard and produced by Michael Townsend. Between chapters, have a chuckle at some classic “Business As Usual” commercial spoofs: “Jackie Hancock Life Insurance,” “Empty Mart,” a new one starring Jerry Fauci (brother of you-know-who) called “Fantarona,” and “Bankers Life and Animosity.” Then a short “Rutabaga Story” by Carl Sandburg, “The Wooden Indian and the Shaghorn Buffalo,” narrated and produced by Dan Bernard. Listen on WMPG 90.9 FM or online at WMPG.org, or catch it on the archives for the next five weeks at https://www.wmpg.org/show/wed1900/.

WMPG fans, read this article about the struggle of community radio stations being overtaken by larger, slicker operations. This station is in San Francisco. Here in Maine, we are so lucky to have an abundance of excellent community radio... but it all depends on listeners continuing support for this unique, independent, handmade, eclectic, hyper-local audio content.

WMPG's Spring Begathon this March (16th to 22nd) is going to need your generous response when we "Beg loud and Beg proud." And we hope that our community radio cousins at KALW have success in their efforts, as well. Hurrah for the volunteers! And double hurrah for the listeners!! Hurrah for the broadcast voice of the people!

"As it approaches its 80th anniversary, KALW finds itself at another crossroads. Can it continue to be successful as a scrappy, independent community public radio station?"

Weds night 11:30pm to 1am, Right On For The Darkness with DJ Eric. WMPG 90.9 FM and WMPG.org for the stream.
With the average song length being over ten minutes, we get some exquisite raps from Isaac Hayes, Millie Jackson, and James Brown; we get monster jams like Johnny Hammond's and the Isley's versions of Carole King's It's Too Late; and a sublime reading of King's So Far Away from The Crusaders. The 70's was a time when artists could count on their audience's attention spans lasting for longer than a four minute single. Let's slow down and revisit those days together. On WMPG Community Radio.

Tune into "The Blues Highway" with Mike Halmo November 11th, 5-7pm for some AWESOME blues. This trip will include a few notable birthdays (LaVern Baker; George "Mojo" Buford); new blues from Duke Robillard, Joe Bonamassa and lots of sax and harp to get you up and boogieing (smokin' opener from sax man Jr Walker). Also featuring last months posthumous release from Daptone Records, the late, great Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings "Just Dropped In To See What Condition My Rendition Was In". Tune-in at wmpg.org or 90.9 FM!!
While listen to "Blunt" on WMPG FM this evening I heard something profoundly sad. In a conversation about copyright law and digital content the interviewer states "I always have friends download and then give it to me, what are the ramifications of that?" Shouldn't a teenager know that convincing someone to steal for you is wrong?
Thank You for playing BECOMING on your station!!! We appreciate your support! 🔥🤘🔥 https://fb.watch/1AwYE66X03/
WHOA! Did WMPG cover the story about the creature in Capisic pond! Seen swimming ther last night under the blue moon!

I’m a sustainer ($10/mo) but I donated another $30 just now to recognize the great jazz Dave Wade plays every week — and they’re doing a match this hour so they double my money. Excellent!
Thought this song would put you in the mood for Halloween. Appreciate a listen and consider for airplay this month. Thanks.
