What’s better eating… Ling cod or Black Rockfish?

Cameron Black, James Moore, Layden, and Mason hit the Pacific Ocean during the early season bottom fishing opener, and the action was nonstop.

Lingcod, seabass, new gear getting put to the test, and plenty of quality fish hitting the deck. This trip was filmed earlier in the season, but it’s finally hitting the channel this fall!

Big Dave took things to another level on this one. Float tube, mini rod, and a steelhead that definitely wasn’t impressed with his choice of tackle.

What’s your favorite rod for sturgeon fishing? 🎣

For me, it’s the Okuma Cedros CJ-C-661MHa. It’s a 6’6” rod rated for 50 to 100 lb line, and it has the backbone I want when we’re targeting big sturgeon, but also a sensitive tip for detecting bites.

Plenty of power when a big fish decides to dig, but still a rod I enjoy fighting fish on. This has become one of my go to sturgeon setups.

Have you ever caught a KING on a jig? 👀

Almost everyone at Buoy 10 trolls for salmon, especially with 360 flashers. Nick Popov decided to do something completely different.

He tied on a knife jig, found the fish, dropped it down and started jigging.

Then THIS happened.

A big Chinook absolutely crushed it. 🔥🎣

Catching a Buoy 10 King is always awesome, but getting one jigging a Laser Minnow off the bottom while everyone around you is trolling is pretty damn cool.

Ever struggle to stay on your spot when there’s no current or the wind is pushing your boat around? 🎣

Here’s a little trick we use! Put the Mercury kicker in reverse, then engage Spot Lock on the Minn Kota. The kicker creates a steady pull for the trolling motor to work against, helping us hold position when the conditions aren’t cooperating.

It’s especially handy with little to no current or wind pushing from behind the boat. Both motors working together to keep us where we want to fish! 👊
