Hundreds of teens who may have gone without gifts this holiday season got an early Christmas thanks to a caring community and the Jordan Education Foundation. The Foundation raised $75,000 to provide a holiday shopping spree for more than 500 students in need throughout Jordan School District at their annual “Christmas for Kids” event.

Both Riverton High’s cross-country teams finished in the top six at the state meet, which took place at the Regional Athletic Complex in Salt Lake City, with the girls coming in at sixth and the boys repeating their 2021 finish taking third.

Both teams finished top six at state, with the boys team nationally ranked as they geared up for the southwest regionals.

Blair Jensen had to know something was up when he walked into the commons area at Jordan Academy for Technology and Careers (12723 S. Park Ave.). He was greeted by applause, balloons, cheerleaders, school officials and the entire student body, who had come to celebrate Jensen receiving the Harbor Freight Tools for Schools prize.

Welding instructor Blair Jensen received national recognition and a cash prize for his work at Jordan Academy for Technology and Careers in Riverton.

The World Marial Arts taekwondo studio sent a 25-member team that represented the state of Utah in the 15th International Taekwondo Expo in South Korea this past summer where several members of the team took home 15 gold medals.

“Six seniors graduated this year, but we’ve taken large numbers of younger ages so we could train them and have them with us for four years. This way we build up a better program and make it stronger every year,” Coach Larson said.

The Riverton Drill Team competed in multiple categories at nationals, including dance, military and palm routines.

About 200 Jordan School District students are sleeping a little better these days, thanks to Jordan Education Foundation and their partnerships.

“I could cry that kids don’t have a bed and blankets. It breaks my heart,” but thanks to community partners, 200 Jordan School District students are now sleeping better with their own beds and bedding.

Members of the Riverton Police Department, United Fire Authority, Utah Task Force One K9 Unit and other public safety officials hosted over 400 residents from surrounding communities for Riverton’s Public Safety Night held at Riverton City Park on Wednesday, Aug. 3.

Public joined in demonstrations from Riverton Police Department, United Fire Authority and other public safety officials.

The Mountain Point Elementary School community will help kick-off Mexican Independence Day celebrations with cultural games and food on Thursday Sept. 15, 6:30-8 p.m. The next day, Spanish DLI students will continue to celebrate and learn about the culture and traditions of Mexico.

Students learn about Mexican Independence Day through Dual Language Immersion program activities.
