I just spent the weekend at Boston Science Fiction Convention (aka Boskone), with two other Greater Portland Scribists. Boskon was full of exciting readings, panels, and workshops on publishing and philosophies of science fiction from Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 (I can never remember that number) to Anne E.G. Nydam’s brand new, magical Extraordinary Book of Doors.
I chanced to have breakfast with Jane Yolen, one of my writing heroes. We wondered together over OJ and knishes whether elephants and whales have storytelling like humans. Jane thinks the humpbacks are mapping rather than recounting.
I took part in the Flash Fiction Slam there, again — 3 minute micro fictions — was told my “Rapture” was great but didn't win.....again. Fortunately, the winners were amazing or my feelings might have been hurt. LOL
