A wild mountain lion wandered into a residential neighborhood near 14th Street and Montana Avenue in Santa Monica.

The animal was first reported around 8 a.m. Friday and was later located in a homeowner's
backyard.

Wildlife officials responded to tranquilize and relocate it safely.

Mountain lions are native to the nearby Santa Monica Mountains, so it is not unusual for them to occasionally travel into urban areas, although finding one in a backyard in a densely populated neighborhood is rare.

No injuries were reported.
