Before my husband passed away, he asked me to deliver a sealed letter to a woman I'd never met β€” after she read the first line, she looked at me and asked, "Did he tell you everything?"
Zane and I were married for 34 years.
He was more than my husband. He was the person I trusted most in the world.
We built a life together, celebrated every good moment side by side, and helped each other through every difficult one. After so many years, I genuinely believed there was nothing left between us that I didn't know.
Then a few months ago, Zane was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer.
From that point on, the hospital became part of our daily life.
Doctors tried everything they could.
I stayed beside him almost constantly, still convincing myself we'd somehow make it through.
Now I realize Zane probably understood the truth long before I did.
Two days before he d*ed, we were alone in his hospital room when he reached into the drawer beside his bed.
He pulled out a sealed envelope.
There was a woman's name written on the front.
I'd never seen it before.
Then he placed the letter in my hands.
"If something happens to me... promise you'll deliver this to her yourself. And whatever you do, don't open it."
I had a thousand questions.
Who was she?
Why did he need me to take it personally?
But I couldn't bring myself to argue with one of his final requests.
After he p*ssed, everything became a blur of funeral arrangements, visitors, and condolences.
I nearly forgot about the envelope.
Then, two days after the funeral, I found it in my bedside drawer.
The next morning, I drove almost three hours to the address written on the back.
A woman opened the door.
The moment I said Zane's name, her face went pale.
She took the envelope with trembling hands and opened it immediately.
She read the first line.

I raised my son alone after my husband abandoned us the moment he found out I was pregnant with a boy. He disappeared without a word, and for almost twenty years, I heard absolutely nothing from him.
