One year ago, I ice fished at Lac Le Jeune Resort and it was a blast! We stationed at 20ft of water and the bites were consistent throughout the day. We are returning to the resort this Christmas holiday and I think you should too. 😉 The resort has both cabin and lodge room accommodations, and a restaurant for those who don't want to think about food prepping while fishing. The fishing spots are just within minutes walk from the resort. If you don't have the gear, Go Fish BC now also has a rod loan station set up at the resort where you can borrow ice fishing rod and reel setups, augers etc for the day.

Steelhead grab and go! Note, only do this when you know it is a hatchery steelhead that you can legally retain. 🙂 Be sure to enter this season’s Wally Hall Junior Memorial Derby at Fred's Custom Tackle. Th derby runs until March 15th and not only do you have a chance to win by catching the biggest hatchery winter steelhead from Chilliwack River, you’ll also be a contributor to the habitat fund for this watershed.

An update from Tunkwa Lake Resort. It's time! 🎣❄️

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas here at Tunkwa! 😊 We checked the ice thickness earlier this week and it was just reaching 4 inches. Our two luxury log cabins are booked until mid January, but we still have several rustic cabins available during the Christmas holiday if anyone would like to come up. December marks the end of the river salmon fishing season, but that doesn’t mean salmon are no longer around. We took our Taco deeper into the forest where coho salmon are now spawning in the next few weeks.

From December to April, winter steelhead fishing opportunities are available at some river systems in Southwestern BC. Winter steelhead are rainbow trout which have adapted to the anadromous lifecycle. Like Pacific salmon, they enter the ocean after spending a year or more in freshwater and return to their natal stream years later to spawn. Unlike Pacific salmon, many can survive the spawning process and return to the ocean afterward to repeat the same process. Adult winter steelhead being targeted by anglers in rivers have a wide weight range, from as little as 4lb to as big as over 20lb.
