Mass Rally Against Waqf Board Composition Held at Sora–Phundrei

A mass rally opposing the inclusion of non-Muslim members in Manipur’s 8th Waqf Board was organised under the banner of the Joint Committee Against the Inclusion of Non-Muslim Members in the 8th Waqf Board (JCAINMM-WB).

The rally was held in collaboration with local organisations from Sora, Phundrei and Keirak, including Anjuman Nasrul Islam Sora, Jamiat Sora Branch, Jamiat-ul-Ulama Phundrei, ASCOC Sora, Phundrei Village, KMSWC Keirak and Jamiat-ul-Ulama Keirak. Participants reiterated their opposition to the composition of the 8th Waqf Board and demanded reconsideration of the inclusion of non-Muslim members.

The Manipur Government has ordered the closure of all schools, colleges and higher educational institutions, including universities, across the state for three days from August 20 to August 22, 2026.

According to an order issued by the Education Department on August 19, the decision was taken in view of the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur. The closure covers government, aided and unaided institutions under the respective education boards and authorities.
