The partnership was sealed with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding at MediaOne Academy, designed to equip people from diverse backgrounds with cutting-edge Data Science and AI expertise. What’s in a cup of coffee? ☕
A rich legacy! On the third day, we immersed ourselves in Coorg’s lifeline – its coffee plantations. Explored the history, labour, business, and varieties of coffee, and how a simple taste transformed the landscape.
At Trust Trading Company, we delved into the coffee bean-making process, market dynamics, and the impact of climate on coffee production. Majeed KU (MD, Trust Trading Company) sparked a deep conversation with students, sharing insights that brought the world of coffee to life!
In the afternoon, we wandered through the serene Nisargadhama, an island oasis formed by the Kaveri River in Kodagu. Bamboo groves and natural beauty left us spellbound! CM Shareef led a profound discussion based on his award-winning documentary on the unnatural deaths of tribal labourers from Kerala in Kudagu’s ginger fields, stirring reflection and awareness among students. The day ended with lively games and sharp, reflective reviews of the camp – a perfect mix of learning, nature, and connection!

Day 2 immersive trip to Dubare & Bylakuppe. ⛰
Started the day with a scenic boat ride across the Kaveri River to reach the Dubare Elephant Camp! Jagadeesh shared fascinating insights about the indigenous communities' deep bond with the forest and its animals, shedding light on human-wildlife conflict and the rich history of the camp. Lenin Subash captivated us with stories about the socio-cultural significance of elephants in our society.
In the afternoon, we headed to Bylakuppe Tibetan Refugee Settlement. Immersed in vibrant Tibetan art, culture, and history, we connected with young and old generations, hearing their inspiring stories of struggles, aspirations, and resilience. Visited the serene Sera Monastic University and Tashilunpo, diving into the world of Tibetan Buddhism, art, and literature. The rainy yet colourful day ended with heartwarming cultural performances by students and faculty!

First Day of MediaOne Academy Boot Camp in Coorg! After an overnight journey from Calicut to Coorg, we kicked off the MediaOne Academy Boot Camp with a nice start! The day began at the CORD premises, where VS Roy David (Director, CORD), Abdullah Madikeri (Reporter, The Hindustan Gazette), and Ameen KU (Library InCharge, MediaOne TV) shared insights on Coorg’s history, life, and communities.
In the afternoon, alongside Roy David, students immersed themselves in the Kuruma community in the Coorg forest, interacting with members about their struggles for Forest Rights and Land Rights. Students gained a deep understanding of the community’s life and were inspired by their resilience.
The evening featured an engaging workshop, Beyond the Script: Embodying the Narrative, led by Abu Valayamkulam, Film Actor and Casting Director, using theatre games to explore communication through body and gestures.
To top it all off, we’re spending the night at a tranquil place near a Tibetan monastery, immersed in the soothing aroma of Coorg coffee.
