JUST IN | At 2:59 am, after more than 15 hours of deliberation, Dexter Clemente is the 42nd Student Regent.

The UPLB USC manifests the importance of a militant Student Regent, especially, with the current political climate. Stating that while there is no sufficient evidence against Clemente for the council to accuse them of anything, the UPLB USC reiterates that they are for justice and they are against anyone that endangers the safety of the masses. Thus, the student body can be assured that should it be proven that the bullying and street vendor disrespect allegations against Dexter Clemente are true, they will be the first to rally against Clemente.

The third SR nominee is Alec Miranda, and the second SR nominee is Renzo Puntanar.

IN PHOTOS | On August 7, 2025, the 1st Day of the 59th Convention of the General Assembly of Student Councils (GASC) was held at the University of the Philippines Los Baños, College of Engineering and Agro-industrial Technology, EE Auditorium. Following the agenda for the 59th GASC, the event started with the Roll Call of the Student Councils per Campus Unit (CU), followed by the term report of the 41st Student Regent Francesca Duran, then the unit reports per CU.

In between the term reports, Cong. Renee Co presented the discussion on the National Situation, emphasizing the need to break free from imperialist control under the current Marcos-Duterte regime. After contextualizing the harsh situation of the country, she urged the studentry to continue resisting oppressive forces and to conduct massive mass campaigns.

The day ended with the final unit report given by UPD EPPO SC, followed by the suspension of the session to be resumed the next day, August 8, 2025.

WATCH | The University of the Philippines Los Baños University Student Council (UPLB USC) enjoins the students of GASC59 to support the humanitarian team stationed in Roxas, Oriental Mindoro, providing context about their situation. The humanitarian team requested for the bodies of "alleged" members of New People's Army (NPA), in order to conduct an independent investigation. However, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) are holding the bodies in custody. This is a violation of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) which states that the remains of the deceased should be handled through appropriate legal means, and be returned to their respective families. The AFP and PNP obstructed the team's efforts by subjecting them to harassment and physical abuse.

Today marks the third day of , held at UP Los Baños and via Zoom. Student Councils from across the UP System will now select the 42nd Student Regent, the only representation of the student body in the UP Board of Regents. LOOK | Day 2 of GASC59 comes to an end with 14 resolutions passed. These will serve as campaign plans for the entire UP System for this upcoming semester, as well as the framework of the 42nd Student Regent's term, setting in motion a new era of student leaders fighting for the rights of the student body. ICYMI | During the press conference for the 42nd UP Student Regent nominees, the final question was addressed to outgoing Student Regent Francesca Duran, with the prompt of what her biggest victory for the student body was, having served as a student leader for one year.

“Para sa akin, malaking bagay ‘yung makita na pagpunta sa iba’t ibang mga constituent units ay may unti-unti tayong naipapanalo sa concerns and demands ng mga estudyante. Dun po talaga nakikita yung kapasidad at kung ano yung kayang ma-achieve, kung ano yung kayang mapagtagumpayan ng opisina dahil ito ang highest representative ng mga estudyante…” Duran affirmed.

ICYMI | Contextualizing the situation that the Philippines is currently under, Congresswoman Renee Co discussed national issues affecting the masses, particularly the unjust dismissal of Sara Duterte’s impeachment and the kowtowing of the Philippine government to Imperialist US. She culminated her talk with a call to action for the youth to keep fighting for the rights of the masses.

“Gusto natin kumalas sa tanikala ng imperialist control, ayaw natin na yung iba’t-ibang bahagi ng kultura, politika, at ekonomiya natin ay hindi naman para sa atin, hindi para sa bayan, hindi para sa kalakhan ng welfare ng sektor…” Co said.
