Lucban Pride march highlights inclusion, equal rights

, — Rainbow colors swept through the streets of Lucban recently as residents, youth leaders and advocates joined a march for inclusion and equal rights. For a few hours, familiar roads became a stage for a message that remains urgent in many communities: everyone deserves respect and equal treatment.

The gathering formed part of LAB Q’TA (Laya Bahaghari: Quezon Tara!), a Pride Month 2026 program organized by the Rotaract Club of Lucban in partnership with the Municipal Gender and Development Office. The event brought together supporters from different sectors to promote inclusivity and strengthen awareness of LGBTQIA+ rights.

undergo training under safer cities program

, — Before police officers arrive and emergency teams mobilize, it is often barangay officials and tanods who answer the first call for help. They settle disputes, respond to disturbances and stand watch over communities where public safety begins closest to home.

That responsibility recently brought barangay captains, Barangay Peace and Order Committee (BPOC) councilors, tanods and force multipliers from Mauban's 40 barangays to a two-day seminar-training. The activity is part of the Department of the Interior and Local Government's Safer Cities Program and is being led by the Mauban Municipal Police Station under PMAJ Hubert Reuben Jabrica.

Alabat strengthens fisherfolk development through I-HELP program

, — Fishermen and barangay officials in Alabat recently attended separate I-HELP orientations as the local government advanced the program's implementation. The sessions included a SWOT analysis for the Alabat Fisherfolks Association and a project briefing for barangay officials in Angeles.

The orientations formed part of a two-year partnership between the municipal government of Alabat and CARE Philippines. The program seeks to strengthen livelihoods, public health, and climate resilience in selected communities across the island municipality.

Sariaya backs coconut farmers through radio-based learning program

, — remains a major source of livelihood in many parts of Sariaya, where families depend on the crop for income. Access to updated farming practices and market information has become increasingly important as growers work to improve yields and earnings.

The School-on-the-Air (SOA) on Coconut program forms part of efforts to strengthen the municipality's coconut sector through farmer education. It provides growers with technical knowledge and updated information through accessible radio-based lessons.

First marks Quezon observance

, - Flames rose from a worn Philippine flag Friday as Quezon province conducted its first flag retirement ceremony. The event applied a national law requiring unserviceable flags to be retired with dignity rather than discarded.

That observance formed part of the Provincial Government of Quezon's first formal retirement ceremony for unserviceable Philippine flags at the provincial capitol on June 5. Provincial authorities said the activity complied with Republic Act 8491, or the Flag and Heraldic Code of the Philippines.

From conflict zone to destination: Quezon charts a new course for

, - For years, people from Quezon often encountered the same remark whenever they mentioned where they came from: “Taga-Quezon ka? Madaming NPA doon, ‘di ba?” Bondoc Peninsula, in particular, became known less for its churches, farms and coastal communities than for stories of insurgency and unrest.

Quezon is now working to reshape that image through tourism, heritage promotion and local enterprise. The province launched the Bondoc Peninsula Agri-Tourism and Pilgrimage Tourism Circuit to showcase the area's faith, agriculture, culture and community life.

General Luna clarifies ambulance policy after social media claims trigger public concern

, - A social media post claiming residents in General Luna, Quezon were being charged ₱3,000 for ambulance service prompted the municipal government to issue a clarification this week. Town officials said emergency ambulance transport remains free and warned that false claims could discourage residents from seeking medical help.

In a public advisory released this week, the municipal government said the ₱3,000 being discussed online was not a service fee but a temporary fuel expense for some non-emergency trips outside the municipality. The amount, according to the advisory, passes through a reimbursement process.
