110 receive health, breeding services in San Antonio

, — Protecting farm animals while strengthening rural livelihoods, the municipal government provided veterinary services to 110 cattle, carabaos, goats and pigs in two farming communities. The two-day medical mission was conducted in Barangays Callejon and Del Valle on August 4 and 5.

Mayor Erick M. Wagan led the municipal initiative in partnership with the Office of the Municipal Agriculturist and the Quezon Provincial Veterinary Office. Municipal Agriculturist Jennifer Lindo Cusi supervised the local agriculture team that brought animal health and reproductive services directly to livestock raisers.

Quezon lays out buyer safeguards, MSME support

, — Online selling, cashless payments and digital registration are reshaping trade across Quezon, forcing the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to protect buyers while helping small businesses compete in a faster, less traceable market. DTI Quezon outlined its response during the Aug. 5 Quezon, covering price rules, online complaints, digital registration, mentoring and market access for micro, small and medium enterprises.

Media partners pressed DTI officials on wrong change, undisclosed charges, mismatched prices and orders that never arrive during the forum at Pacific Mall in Lucena City. Consumer Protection Division chief Philip Leee J. Oliveros tied each complaint to existing trade rules and spelled out what consumers may demand before a purchase turns into a dispute.

4K says bill clears House panel after years of failed bids

, — After 17 years of unfinished legislative attempts, 4K Party-list said House Bill No. 9147 has cleared the House Committee on Local Government, pushing a permanent Hermano Puli holiday closer to a chamber vote. The measure would declare November 4 a special non-working holiday throughout Quezon, replacing an annual observance that still depends on presidential discretion.

In Lucban, where Apolinario de la Cruz—better known as Hermano Puli—was born, the proposal would turn a familiar commemoration into a fixed date on the legal calendar. That certainty would let schools, heritage groups, workers and local officials plan ceremonies, lessons and schedules without waiting for Malacañang to act.

Partial opening to slash Batangas-Quezon travel time

, - Travel between Batangas and Quezon is expected to become significantly faster before the end of the year as the first operational section of the South Luzon Expressway Toll Road 4 (SLEX TR4) prepares to open. The milestone marks the first public use of the long-awaited expressway after years of construction and is expected to improve regional connectivity across Southern Luzon.

Transportation Secretary Giovanni "Banoy" Lopez recently said the first three construction packages are targeted to begin operations in November or December. The initial phase will connect Sto. Tomas, Batangas and Tiaong, Quezon, giving motorists a faster alternative to the heavily used Maharlika Highway while paving the way for the gradual completion of the remaining sections.

, — Thousands of Lucena residents could ultimately see changes in how their city is governed and how locally generated revenues are managed as a legal dispute over the city's status intensifies. Conflicting interpretations from the Provincial Government and Lucena City officials have transformed a decades-old legal question into one of the most consequential governance debates now facing Quezon Province.

The dispute escalated after Governor Angelina "Helen" Tan sought a formal legal clarification from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in 2025 regarding Lucena's status. The department later issued a legal opinion in December 2025 and a certification dated May 13, 2026 recognizing Lucena as a component city, a position that the Provincial Government of Quezon later explained in a video posted on its official page on Aug. 2.

Lopez, DAR renew partnership to strengthen agrarian reform efforts

, — Strengthening support for farmers and rural communities, the municipal government of Lopez and the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) renewed their partnership recently to advance initiatives and agricultural development. The meeting underscored the continuing role of national and local government collaboration in delivering programs that benefit the municipality's agricultural sector.

Mayor Isaias "Sonny" P. Ubana II welcomed representatives of the Department of Agrarian Reform to the Office of the Municipal Mayor, where they discussed agrarian reform concerns and other government initiatives related to agricultural development. The dialogue also focused on sustaining coordination to improve the implementation of programs intended for farming communities.
