Okay, I am just gonna say it..
OUR WORLD IS GOING TO S**T.
When I was growing up, I was taught to love thy neighbor, even if they dont love you. I was raised in a world where racism wasn't a thing, people weren't getting killed left and right, the cops were there to HELP you, drugs were never around, and you could play outside without being afraid that you may never come back.
Now, I am constantly looking over my shoulder, afraid that if something were to happen, calling the police would just make it worse. I dread phone calls about another loved one overdosing, or being shot and killed over absolutely nothing. I'm afraid for not only my life, but every person around me.
I love my crazy biracial family, and I would be devastated if something happened to them. I pray that one day WE come together as one, and put an end to all of this violence.
Today we celebrate Chris Miller, our communications and community investment officer, for the decade of service he has provided to Akron Community Foundation. In his role, Chris provides vital services to both our marketing and community investment office and acts as a key storyteller for the nonprofits in our community, as well as the generous donors who give to them. You can see his work in our magazine The Signal, on our website, in many of our videos that he also shoots and produces, and throughout our various social media channels. Chris is the go-to staff member when we need technology advice or want to know about the best upcoming events (though sadly, not this year).
Chris is well known for his involvement in the arts community and can be seen at most local festivals, sometimes even performing with the Rubber City Ukes. He was instrumental in bringing outdoor movies to Glendale Cemetery and founded The Akronist, a news site that has highlighted the good works of our local nonprofits for nearly a decade.
Thank you, Chris, for your collaborative approach and for making Akron Community Foundation stronger. Happy 10th anniversary!
We love the Akron Civic Theatre and The Akronist! ♥️
Brilliant idea ! Massive pool of college students (stuck at home) connected with a massive pool of K-12 students (stuck at home), and a large (and growing) number of parents increasingly frustrated with juggling WFM and teaching their kids.
