“We became best friends together…We started going to church together, seeking God together” - 🎓Johnson C. Smith University Class of 2026 valedictorian, Jayden Petrus, speaks on meeting his now wife, from randomly knocking on her dorm room door freshman year

Before this story, he spoke on how his first few weeks of college were filled with loneliness, and depression, coming from California to NC. He decided to step outside of his comfort zone and begin meeting people in his dorm, by randomly knocking on doors.

The second door was his now wife.

HBCU Fun Fact: 🩺🥼For anyone looking to apply to medical schools, there are currently 4 Historically Black medical schools, and two more on the way.

📍Including:
Howard University College of Medicine- which is the oldest HBCU medical school, founded in 1868.

Meharry Medical College- located in Nashville, TN

Morehouse School of Medicine- located in Atlanta, Ga

Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science- located in Los Angeles, CA

Upcoming HBCU Medical Schools include:
Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine, which is a partnership between Xavier University of Louisiana and Ochsner Health.

“On November 11th, 2022 at 10:00 PM, I met the woman of my dreams.
That night we watched movies, and I was too nervous to make a move—so we just sat there the whole time. After she left, I texted her saying I forgot my goodnight kiss… and she promised I’d get it next time.

Since that day, she’s been the light in my life. She’s made me a better student, a better son, and a better man. She helped me believe in a future I never even saw for myself.

We’ve had our highs and lows, but there’s no one else I’d rather do life with. So as we close this chapter of our undergraduate journey, I couldn’t imagine a better way to end it… than getting engaged to my best friend. 💍”
