Due to low humidity & gusty winds, open burning is NOT allowed to prevent fire hazards. Updates on when the burn ban is lifted will be posted here.

✅ Allowed: Fire pits, chimineas & portable fireplaces.
🚫 NOT Allowed: Yard debris, bonfires, fields, yards, or ditches.

Conway, SC – Lawson Family Dentistry and Lawson Law LLC are proud to announce the return of the annual Lawson Smile to Success Scholarship, awarding $2,000 in scholarship funds to a graduating senior pursuing higher education in the medical or legal field.

The application period opens on March 3, 2025, and closes at midnight on May 1, 2025. The scholarship recipient will be announced on May 22, 2025, and notified via email.

This opportunity is available to all graduating seniors in Horry County who plan to continue their studies at an accredited institution in the medical or legal field.

How to Apply:

Applicants must submit their application via email to [email protected] and include the following:

Letter of Recommendation: A compelling letter of recommendation from a teacher, mentor, or community leader.
Personal Information: Full name, high school attended, high school address, phone number, email address, intended college, and current GPA.

Academic Achievements: A list of honors, awards, and recognitions.
Extracurricular Activities: A summary of involvement in school and community activities.

Essay Responses:

Essay 1 (500-700 words): Reflect on your decision to pursue a career in law or medicine. Consider the people, experiences, and moments that have shaped your aspirations. Essay 2 (300 words or less): Describe the proudest moment of your life and its impact on your journey.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Annual Water System Flushing 🚰

📅 March 2025 – Grand Strand Water and Sewer Authority (GSWSA) will temporarily switch its water disinfectant from chloramines to free chlorine for all customers west of the Waccamaw River.

💧 Why the change?
This routine switch is done annually and helps eliminate any bacteria that may have adapted to chloramines, ensuring the highest water quality.

🔍 What to Expect:
✔️ No disruption to your water service
✔️ Possible slight chlorine taste or smell (this is normal)
✔️ Safe, high-quality drinking water remains our priority

ROAD REOPENS: International Drive has reopened after an extended closure in support of wildfire operations in the Carolina Forest area.

Community members can resume using International Drive; however, we ask that drivers maintain situational awareness as public safety personnel and apparatus will still be active in the area.

Please be advised that other closures may be necessary should conditions change and/or the wildfire operations evolve.

Smoke is still possible in the area as long as fire operations continue.

❗️MISSING/RUNAWAY TEEN - Jeremiah Tyson❗️

On Friday, February 28, 2025, Conway PD opened an investigation into a missing/runaway teen. Jeremiah Tyson is a 16-year-old male, 6’1”, 150 lbs. He was last seen on February 28, 2025, at approximately 12:45pm in the area of Dillon Street. Tyson was last seen wearing a red and black leather jacket, black jeans, black shirt, with a green bookbag.
