Although Emory Elementary School closed its doors in 2022, renovations are underway for the building to greet families once again — this time to lend them a helping hand.

The former school building is being transformed into the Daylight Collective, a 107,000-square-foot community hub that will offer families support, opportunity and connection, all in one place.

While Saturdays can be a time to rest and relax, many Lakewood residents spent their Saturday on Sept. 19 giving back to the city they love for an annual day of volunteering.
Love Lakewood Day gives residents an opportunity to volunteer to complete projects across the city, helping to improve places around town such as schools or parks. This year was the city’s largest Love Lakewood Day yet, with 37 projects across town and more than 850 volunteers giving back to the community — more than double the volunteer numbers the event saw last year.

Wheat Ridge City Council has voted to purchase the former Wilmore Davis Elementary property, and to later sell the majority of the property to Spectra Centers, which will turn the former school building into a special education school.
