I built this Fake Concrete Fire Pit Coffee Table out of cement board and Thinset Mortar!!! It’s way more lightweight than a concrete pour would have been and I dig that you can get bags of white or grey mortar! Full tutorials on Modern Builds… check it out!

How I added concrete footings for the Smart Pergola! I removed a few rows of deck boards and used the joists of the deck as the form. After screeding and troweling concrete flat to the joists I could add the deck boards back down… ready for the pergola install!! I don’t have to deal with a frost line here in SoCal so it doesn’t need to be dug in!

This Hidden Deck Screw Jig from came in clutch for this deck project. Unlike other jigs like this, the powertec one is adjustable down to 3.5” which is the deck board with I was using. Finished result is clean and modern with no screws showing! Not an ad, just sharing a cool thing.
