Madison365

Madison365 A New Voice for Madison We will ensure that all voices are heard, because all voices matter. The conversations we start will not always be comfortable.

Madison365 is a nonprofit new media enterprise intended to keep Greater Madison’s communities of color informed, and to report news from their perspective. We intend to use excellent multimedia journalism to dig deeply into the issues within and between communities of color, and the rifts between minorities and the majority culture. We believe tension and disagreement, when coupled with respect, w

ill lead to positive change. Madison365 will go beyond simply informing Madison on what is happening in its community of color. It will provide ways and means to actively get involved in these communities, foster deep and meaningful discussion, and begin to develop real solutions for our city. Madison365 will dig deep into our often overlooked and neglected communities and be a catalyst for change. People want to talk, and people want to act. At the moment there is no forum for all communities of color to join with the majority community in productive, respectful dialog. No media outlets are able or willing to pursue the issues deeply. Very few local journalists come from communities of color. Madison’s communities of color want and deserve a well-rounded media outlet of their own. In addition to applying our excellent brand of journalism to the difficult issues, we will cover sports, entertainment and lifestyle topics from the perspective of the community. Madison365 will be the community’s media outlet. It will be funded and guided by members of the community, with additional funding from sponsors, grants and events.

“Regardless of what happens with the shutdown … we have the funds available, and by not doing it, we are intentionally making it so that poor and hungry kids don’t get food, and families that need it the most don’t get it,” said Congressman Mark Pocan.

Wisconsin lawmakers and community leaders called on the federal government to release emergency SNAP funding at a press conference at Middlecamp Center for Vincentian Charity on Oct. 30, as FoodShare…

Once described as a tropical paradise, the coastal town of Black River, Jamaica, is now being compared to “hell on Earth” after being ravaged by Hurricane Melissa.

Many of the town’s colorful homes, historical buildings and lush greenery have been reduced to piles of rubble that litter the now-muddy ground.

ICE agents arrested roughly 75 immigrants at or near its Milwaukee office between January and July of this year, mostly those without a past criminal conviction or a pending criminal charge. The arrests of one Venezuelan couple reflect an apparent shift in ICE’s interpretation of protections for asylum seekers. Officers are now detaining even immigrants who don’t have removal cases in immigration court. Wisconsin Watch reports.

We live in a world that is always connected and always on. You can scroll at any hour of the day and see people who seem to be doing better, looking better, or living better. But comparison is a thief. It steals joy, distorts purpose, and clouds identity. In this week's "Real Life. Real Faith." column, Henry Sanders explores how we can protect our peace and stay focused on what matters.

East High's Día de los Mu***os celebration has become both a vibrant cultural showcase and a vital fundraiser supporting two student organizations: Ballet Folklórico de Maria Díaz and the Raza United Student Association. Madison365's Lupe Salmeron reports.

What began in 2015 as a small, uncertain celebration in the Madison East High School theater has now grown into one of the school’s most beloved annual traditions. The 8th Annual Día de los Mu***os…
