Mid-April is when spring starts to feel fully underway here. Wildflowers are peaking, birds are moving north in greatest numbers, and Tomales Point offers that classic Point Reyes mix of open sky, coastal wind, and the chance of seeing tule elk out on the bluffs.

By early April, Point Reyes begins to look newly fluent in color. Abbotts Lagoon, Chimney Rock, and Tomales Point are all noted for spring wildflowers, and April is one of the key months for the bloom. This is the time for long walks, slow looking, and the particular pleasure of finding whole stretches of trail quietly lit up by flowers. Get out and explore the trails, you'll be well rewarded!

If your ideal Point Reyes stay is peaceful, private, and close to nature without feeling remote, Black Heron Inn gets the balance right. It sits on the Point Reyes Mesa with open views over grassland, ridge, and bay, yet it is only a short drive from town. In spring, when the whole landscape is freshly green, it makes a beautiful base for long walks, slow mornings, and coming back to a room with real space and a view worth lingering over.

Weekdays from 4 to 6, you can settle in with draft beer, wine, cocktails, and bar bites in the middle of downtown Point Reyes Station.

Point Reyes is famous for its raw, dramatic coastline, but some of the loveliest walks are along the beaches of Tomales Bay. The bay has a different rhythm: calmer water, softer edges, and a quieter kind of beauty. For days when you want space without the full force of the coast, it’s hard to beat.

Late March is one of the loveliest moments to walk Chimney Rock. Wildflowers are starting up along the trail, elephant seals can still be seen in the area, and gray whales are still moving past the headlands on their northern migration. It is one of those rare places where the season feels wide open in every direction. Happy Spring!

Station House has long been one of those places people fold into a Point Reyes day without overthinking it. A walk, a drive, a little time outdoors, then happy hour at the bar from 4 to 6. The menu keeps it easy: draft beer, wine, cocktails, and snacks, in a space known for its animated atmosphere, full bar, and the kind of local energy that makes you want to stay for one more round.

Spring is an especially good time to stay at Black Heron Inn. The hills are green, the light stays longer, and every room opens out to wide views of Tomales Bay and Inverness Ridge. After a day on the trails, it is the kind of place that lets you come back to quiet: your own entrance, your own deck, and wide views over Tomales Bay and Inverness Ridge.
