This is the moment to give yourself space.

Walk above the Pacific. Stand quietly along Tomales Bay and watch the light shift across the water. Give your phone a break.

Sometimes a deep reset is simply a few unclaimed hours outdoors, between seasons, between chapters, where nothing is expected of you and the horizon doesn't ask for anything back.

After storms, seasonal waterfalls are at their strongest, including the dramatic coastal drop at Alamere Falls. Migratory birds move through the area, shorebirds gather along estuaries, and the trails are green and feel freshly washed.

Peak wildflower season is still ahead, but early blooms begin to appear along coastal trails and blufftops. You might notice tidy tips brightening a meadow or patches of gold scattered through fresh grass. It feels like the landscape is clearing its throat before a full chorus.

The light shifts, too. Longer afternoons. Softer air. The park feels awake.

This in-between season feels spacious rather than sleepy. The grasses are green from rain, the skies shift quickly from silver to blue, and the trails open out in front of you without urgency.

You can walk the bluff trails or follow the shoreline along Tomales Bay and hear your own footsteps. No rush to get back to anything. No pressure to check off landmarks.

Just air, horizon, and the steady rhythm of the tide.

The local wildlife wanders across the lawn and perch in the trees around the Inn.

It really feels like you've escaped into nature, yet it's less than a five minute drive from dining, music, shopping on Main street in downtown Point Reyes Station.

Late winter into early spring isn't a headline season -- it's a breathing space.

Climb the headlands near Chimney Rock or stand above the Pacific near the Point Reyes Lighthouse and you may find long stretches of quiet coastline with very few other footprints.

The light feels transitional. The wind carries the last edge of winter. The hills are poised, not yet in full bloom, not dormant either.

This liminal time, as we shift between seasons, is a perfect time for unstructured hours outdoors. For letting your thoughts stretch as wide as the horizon. For remembering how much room there is when you step away from the noise and stand at the edge of land and sea.

Black Heron Inn sits on a gentle rise of the Point Reyes mesa, overlooking open hills and wide, peaceful vistas that feel especially restorative in winter. The rooms are spacious and inviting, with big windows that let in that soft seasonal light. It’s a two minute drive into town, yet far enough to feel like you’ve stepped into your own private retreat.

After a day exploring trails or beaches, this is the kind of place where you settle in, breathe a little deeper, and let the quiet carry the evening.

Winter settles beautifully over Point Reyes Station Inn. Quiet mornings, mist drifting over the hills, and a peaceful courtyard where the bare branches and evergreens feel like part of the season’s stillness. Inside, you’ll find vaulted ceilings, soft light, and a fireplace that makes the whole room glow.

From the inn, it’s an easy walk into town for coffee or dinner, and an easy drive to beaches, tule elk, and wide open trails. Come back at dusk, curl up, and let the quiet winter evening do its work.
