For artist Frances Smokowski, every drawing begins as a meditation—a daily ritual that blends creativity, recovery, and spiritual reflection.

This year, Smokowski exhibited her graphite series "Efficacies" and "Aetherscapes" at Cavin-Morris Gallery, where she also released two companion catalogs through Blurb. With design support from her partner, Ernest Burden III, Smokowski used these books to preserve her exhibition beyond the gallery walls, capturing each collection as a lasting visual statement.

"My Blurb books are portable and perpetual extensions of my exhibitions,” she shared. “They let me document and share my work long after it’s off the wall.”

Photography Without Borders is a Philadelphia-based nonprofit empowering young artists to share their stories through photography.

Their latest book weaves together striking images and personal narratives, giving readers a chance to experience the stories and perspectives of young photographers firsthand. “The images of our young photographers are a profound invitation to witness how they view the world,” the team shared.

The response has been full of hope and excitement, with community leaders and neighbors rallying behind their work—including Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker, whose support through the Anti-Violence Community Partnership grant helped make this book possible.

To bring their vision to life, the nonprofit partnered with Blurb's Large Order Services, receiving custom pricing, proofing, and hands-on support to fine-tune their design and prep their layout for print.

Self-publishing? Not so scary after all. 👻

For Cat Guffin, film photography has always been about connection, nostalgia, and keeping things analog. With Blurb, she discovered that self-publishing could be just as approachable. Thanks to print-on-demand, she didn’t have to take a big financial risk or buy a large batch of books upfront.

Now, she turns her seasonal images into tangible photo zines you can flip through, hold, and fall in love with. Guffin used Blurb's paperback books (also called trade books) with our new matte cover to keep her work accessible and intimate: “I love how the prints maintain the integrity of my photos while keeping a casual, collectible feel.”

Issue #3 of "Hidden Bubbles Zine" is available now in the Blurb Bookstore: https://bit.ly/47v9jzT.

Pesya Altman is a visual artist who explores the human condition through expressive figures, portraits, and scenes that capture emotion, conflict, and everyday life.

Ahead of an upcoming exhibition, she designed a small-format catalog to showcase her work—and discovered it doubled perfectly as a promo piece to connect with new galleries and museums, increase visibility in the art world, and even use at artist talks.

Plus, by ordering a bunch, she automatically received a substantial volume discount.

What does it mean to see music? For photographer Oliver Drummer Akinfeleye, it means chasing Afrobeats rhythms with his lens for years.

In "Eagle Eye," those moments come together as a storytelling photo book: raw energy, rare access, and quiet reflection woven into one narrative. It's not just about the music, but the presence of the photographer behind the lens, a Nigerian creative from Queens preserving history as it unfolded.

Artists across mediums share a common goal: to move and inspire. For her senior thesis, graphic designer and musician Beia Smith-Shaw set out to merge both worlds by designing a new typeface, Headliner, that weaves rhythm, harmony, and movement into letterforms.

She showcased her project in a Blurb layflat book, presenting "Headliner" at full scale—just as it was meant to be seen: "Design isn't as successful unless you have it in a physical form. I think print is vital to making sure we have a human connection with design and art."

In this interview, Smith-Shaw shares her process and how she transformed her passion for music and design into a bold new creative language. See the full interview on our YouTube channel: https://bit.ly/4nMIVIA
