Today for Day 4 of Safeguarding Adults Week, the theme is Trust Your Instincts. We’re focusing on how building courage, confidence, and resilience can help us speak out when something doesn’t feel right. Safeguarding begins with individuals who are willing to question, reflect, and act. By encouraging open conversations and creating supportive cultures, we can strengthen good safeguarding practice and make it easier for people to raise concerns.

🤝 Trusting your instincts means paying attention to those moments when something feels unusual or concerning, even if you can’t immediately explain why. Speaking up can help prevent harm and ensure people get the support they need.

📘 To explore how “speak out” cultures can be fostered through trust, honesty, and transparency, read Lisa Curtis’s introduction here: https://www.anncrafttrust.org/how-speak-out-cultures-can-help-prevent-abuse/engaged-audience-raising-hands-at-business-event/

Together, let’s continue building communities where people feel listened to, supported, and safe — and where speaking up is always encouraged 💙🤝

Today for Day 3 of Safeguarding Adults Week, the theme is based on Creating Empowering Environments. We’re focusing on how empathy, understanding, co-production, and positive risk-taking can help create trauma-informed environments where people feel supported, confident, and empowered. By working with individuals and valuing lived experience, staff can build the trust and confidence needed to enable greater choice and independence.

🤝 As part of this approach, Teeswide Safeguarding Adults Board has worked with members of Independent Voices and Larchfield Community to co-produce a new animation about the Safe Place Scheme. Safe Place locations are community venues where people who may need extra support can go if they feel worried, lost, or need help, it can be from a simple phone call home to assistance with directions. It’s another practical way to create safer, more empowering environments for everyone.

Together, let’s continue building communities where people feel safe, included, and empowered. 💙🤝
