Lesotho’s public purse has sprung another leak. The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning has identified overpayments to Census Assistant Supervisors and Enumerators – the latest in a run of financial discrepancies that has left officials struggling to explain how public money keeps going astray.

The ministry is now investigating how many census workers were overpaid, and by how much.

LESOTHO bid to reclaim a seat at SADC’s top table has hit a snag, with regional leaders unable to choose between the Kingdom and Angola for the incoming chairship of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation.

The impasse played out at the 46th SADC Ordinary Summit in Durban, South Africa, where leaders endorsed Eswatini’s formal takeover of the Organ Troika chairship from Malawi but could not agree on who should line up next.

TWO South African men facing cannabis possession and money laundering charges have applied for bail of M1,000 each and demanded the return of M202,000 in cash and a motor vehicle seized by police, after their first bid for release was rejected.

Nash Pillay and Thabiso Ngidi filed the fresh bail application before the Maseru Magistrate’s Court this past week, after Magistrate Puseletso McPherson turned down their initial attempt on 9 July 2026, when they were charged and remanded into custody.

She made the remarks while sentencing ‘Mamaboka Likalolo, 40, of Ha Mofoka, to six years’ imprisonment without the option of a fine, with three years suspended for two years on condition that she is not convicted of a similar offence during the suspension period.
