Four police incidents in one weekend is kind of a lot
A Weekend Meant for Celebration—Disrupted by Reckless and Violent Acts
As Santa Monica came together this weekend to celebrate Juneteenth and Pride, our officers responded to a series of reckless and dangerous incidents that disrupted what should have been a time of unity and reflection.
🔹 Sunday evening, officers responded near 2nd and Broadway to a targeted and isolated shooting that left two juveniles injured. Both sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported for medical care. Detectives are actively investigating, and anyone with information is urged to contact SMPD.
🔹 On Saturday night, a suspected DUI driver crashed into a family of five (including a 1-year-old) near Palisades Beach Road. The same driver was linked to three separate hit-and-run collisions earlier that evening. The child was unharmed thanks to proper use of a car seat, and the driver was arrested.
🔹 Late Thursday evening, officers arrested a driver seen doing donuts and burnouts at Ocean and Colorado, and again in the Pier Deck parking lot. The reckless driving caused pavement damage that met the threshold for felony vandalism. That case remains under investigation.
These events are stark reminders that even during a weekend meant for celebration, reckless and violent behavior puts lives at risk.
We thank those who came forward with witness statements and evidence. SMPD remains committed to protecting our community.
