Meet one of our 2025 Under 40s: Kaitlin Deschane, Program Director for M&M Area Community Foundation!

Q: What’s a failure or setback you experienced that ended up being a stepping stone to something greater?

A: When I first went to school, I dreamed of working in museums, but was never been able to make that dream come true. But my skills as a historian became a great asset in every job I've had, as they have given me the ability to conduct research finding solutions, ideas and partners.

UWO Chancellor Manohar Singh’s American dream began with a German sports car.

“As a young man, at 18 or 19, I would put my head in my mom’s lap and say, ‘Mom, bless me so that I can go to America and drive a Mercedes,’” says Singh, a native of Punjab, India who grew up in a home with six brothers.

Despite never going to school themselves, Singh’s parents, refugees from pre-partition India, made education nonnegotiable for their children. Singh's love for education turned into a 25‑year career as a college professor.

When craft and sewing giant Joann Fabrics closed all of its 800 stores earlier this year, it was a blow for crafters and quilters who relied on the chain for an abundant selection of fabrics, notions and supplies.

But crafters are by nature problem-solvers, and industry insiders say there are plenty of other sources for supplies, and crafting as a hobby is just as big as ever, with a new generation discovering the joy of making things themselves. Stangel presented “Purpose: Finding Where You Belong” and spoke about some tumultuous years with personal and professional challenges. She said renewing her connection to spirituality, placing more focus on family, and working with a kind and thoughtful team at Curative Connections helped her reconnect with her core passions.

Curative Connections is a Green Bay nonprofit providing adult day services for people with early memory loss, dementia and other neurological impairments, as well as disabilities and transportation limitations. Read Insight's Cover Story on Curative Connections here: https://loom.ly/nq1b9Y0

Meet one of our 2025 40 Under 40s: Stephanie Thiede: Public Health Nurse, Outagamie County Public Health!

Q: What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

A; How to establish healthy boundaries. A lot of the work I do is mentally and emotionally heavy. During the pandemic, I really went to work on improving my ability to cope. With this awareness, I have been able to manage stress and prevent burnout so much more effectively than in the past. In taking care of myself, I am so much better equipped to care for my clients, families and the community.

Meet one of our 2025 40 Under 40s: Cal Kanowitz, Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Marion Body Works, Inc.!

Q: What advice would you give to others looking to make a difference in their communities?

A: Every community is looking for young leaders to volunteer within their organizations and non-profits. The more you make time for this, the more you understand the needs around you. Always look for ways to use your gifts and influence to help others. The relationships that you will gain from doing this will open doors to other opportunities. Being involved in your local community will also help you understand the challenges that are facing some of your employees.
